Wisky thinks Tigers Roll
Posted by Leonides on 9/2/16 at 2:51 am122
While driving in for game, local radio was handicapping all marquee college games this weekend. All 4 guys on local radio said LSU big over Wisky. One guy said Badgers would not score. Another said LSU would blow out Wisconsin. I was somewhat surprised. Rant opinions?

All kidding aside I say LSU scores 5 touchdowns in the first half

Logically, I agree. In the past, I'd say LSU struggles. This year, I agree and think LSU dominates.
I tend to agree, several key factors that will be an advantage to LSU. One is the decline in Wisconsin offense. Not dealing with same caliber running offense as 2014. And no real "light it up" play makers in passing game. LSU is loaded on defense, and with Aranda's style in bodes very well in the Tigers favor. It will be very interesting to watch the transition to 3-4 scheme though. I think this will take time to truly develop its potential.
Other factor is speed, strength and depth of LSU run game. I know, most will want Harris to light it up with 250 yards passing and 3 TD's but the core strength of this offense is the run. The passing game will be needed in the future, and Harris will need the time to improve/refine his throws (with hopefully more versatile play calling) but I just don't think this game will depend on it. The beginning of the second half, I really believe LSU will pull away because of the power running of the stable of backs. I will be shocked if this game goes any different than LSU with 250 yards rushing and 100-125 yards passing. But we soon shall see! Geaux Tigers!
And BTW, why the heck are we posting on a message board at 3 AM ? LOL

I'm posting because I drove 22 hours straight to Madison. Can't sleep because of lack of sleep and excitement for game. Hoping that the locals' lack of confidence in the Badgers transfers into an impressive opening weekend for the good guys.
I do tend to think that we should beat the brakes off Wisconsin, but the game being played in Lambeau has me slightly concerned. Even on the road, I think we should win by a few TD's. This Wisconsin team doesn't have the same rushing attack it did the last time we met.
So yeah, I "think" we're going to win. I try not to "expect" anything these days, when it comes to LSU/Saints games. I just hope Les has the guys prepared and we come ready. The last thing I want, is for us to pull a Tennessee and get pushed around by an inferior team. Seemed the Vols were listening to the hype and came unprepared. Wisconsin is no App St, but they are a team we should beat convincingly. I hope we come out of the tunnel and dominate. It's time to show the whole country, that the road to a Championship most go through LSU.

We'll have to see, it seems like the local Wisky reporters believe there is a difference in level of team.
Current Wisconsin can't handle current Ohio St, there's a pretty significant difference on the field (or has been the past couple of years). Just as Michigan St couldn't handle Alabama, for the same reasons.
Sounds like they are perceiving that LSU is on the level of Bama and Ohio St, while they think Wisconsin is on the level below.
Whether that turns out to be true, or is just popular opinion, is the million dollar question.

This game will mirror the OSU championship game. We will see how long it takes until Aranda realizes that he has the cornerbacks to go man up and literally everyone else is in the box.
Don't know what the score will be when Aranda trusts this, but from that point on, LSU rolls.

No, same game as 2 years ago, we pull away late.
Not only are these two completely different teams, that's not what happened two years ago.

My biggest concern is the "first game" rust/sluggishness. Although LSU has traditionally played pretty well in neutral/away operners against ranked or power 5 teams we have also struggled a bit in operners against inferior teams (at least in the first half of games) and tend to play down to our competition somewhat.
I really believe Miles and Co. are wanting to make a statement in this game (at least I hope they are) and show the country that LSU is legit and that he can open up the offense and let our superior playmakers loose. If they do I think LSU can get a lead early, go into halftime ahead by a couple TD's and then come out in the 2nd half and punish Wisconsin. I hope we can use the 2nd half to "test" Harris & our WR's ability to take over a game and run wild on the road in a hostile environment against what amounts to a mid-level SEC team.
LSU 41
WISC 23

Down 24-7 midway through 3rd Q is not viewed as pulling away late?
Wow... Interesting take.

To me "pulling away late" is 24-21 in the 3rd quarter and winning 31-24, not being down 24-7 and winning late. That's called a comeback win. Just my opinion. I don't expect either of those this weekend. 21-7 at halftime and win 38-17.
