Let me help you

Had it not been for covid last March, we would’ve made our first back to back ncaa tournament since dale brown

And we are definitely in the hunt for the sec title again after he WON it in year 2, 2 years after we were steamrolled in the SEC under Jones

Hey now!! Don't sell John Brady short. He made the NCAAT in 2005 and 2006.

And even though I know the poster you are referring to is a troll, I'm not quite sure the definition of "in the hunt"? However, I do know that 18-19 had the best SEC record for any LSU team since 1981 along with the highest NCAAT seed since that same year. I would say they were "in the hunt" that season. Unfortunately, with Wade watching from elsewhere, they ended up losing to a better and higher seeded Mich. St. team that ultimately went to the Final Four.

This season is early, but I think we all expect LSU to be in serious contention for an SEC title once more...for the 3rd year in a row. A level of consistency that hasn't been here since the early/mid 80's

My bad about the Brady years....I’m a youngin lol! But what I meant as far being “in the hunt” was sec title contention and ncaa tournament appearances! I know it’s unrealistic to expect titles and final 4 appearances due to the nature of the tournament but we haven’t had this type of consistently in a long long time

I’m not sold yet. He can’t coach defense and he scores based on player ability, not good offensive coaching. Teams that play good defense cause problems for him. See Michigan State. He is a good recruiter so far. Coaching ability is not evident to me yet.

The issue has always been defense and this team with depth should be able to defend much better than any he has had without sacrificing offense. Defending the perimeter and preventing the lights out 3 point shooting from opponents we saw last year has to be the goal.

Even the SEC champs team had size to protect the rim but it wasn't an elite defensive team

Agree. But for some reason it always felt like teams shot lights out against us... I guess at least having a hand up in their vicinity would help.

Last year I feel like we were missing a KBW type. We had Emmit playing the 5 at times. Hopefully Gray, O'neal, and/or BPJ can be fill that role.

He can’t coach defense

This is a fair criticism only based on the results of the defensive performances of past teams. But I wouldn't say based on that you can definitively say he can't coach it.

I think the past 3 years have been more a product of philosophy and trying a square peg/round hole approach on how they used the man defense. Plus Wade tends to sometimes overly rely on the metrics when determining his defensive scheme for a game (e.g. when to back off certain shooters based on past percentages). The other part of the equation is I think they just haven't had players that committed to or had an attitude of wanting to play great defense. And while he has had some talented rosters, the depth and mix of talents wasn't there yet.

I think you begin to see improvement in this area this year. Not only is there more depth, which allows for fresh bodies in rotation without much drop off; it also allows for Wade to "punish" good players that aren't willing to play defense, which he hasn't been able to do in the past. Now he knows he can put in a near close in talent player off the bench and not sacrifice the product on the court. Plus, once LeBlanc can play (next week), he has at the very least 4 players that play with a defense/rebounding first mindset; whereas in the past he has had maybe 1-2 on a roster.

I don't get what it is going to take for some of you to realize that Wade can coach offense and that it is not just a product of recruiting more talented offensive players than everyone else.

You don't become a top 5 or top 10 offensive team in the country, which he has consistently been (currently ranked 5th on KenPom), by not knowing how to develop players and coach offense. In fact, prior to this year, most of the offensive production has come because of the offensive sets and philosophies of getting to the free throw line and rebounding, not b/c of talented shooters/scorers that they have been productive.

Just because you or others may not be used to the philosophy or style/sets he plays with, doesn't mean he doesn't know how to coach it.
