Everyone is mentioning 1992, but LSU wasn't coming off of a NC in 1992. I'll admit, I wasn't following them in 1992... I was too young to care.

Coming off a NC wasn’t even close to the reason 1992 sucked. Just go back and look at the results... but if you even look at film off all the games that year you would change your mind..... the whole team was just horrible.

It’s the worst team since Saban created the machine that is modern LSU football, with championship expectations, a solidified recruiting base and stability all throughout...
Yes the losses of staff and talent were enormous...but the on the field product is ?? and it doesn’t appear to be changing...not this year.

There are so many teams that we wouldn't have the right to be angry about finishing with a losing record

1994 was almost as bad. We went 5-6 the year before, just missing a bowl and upset Bama. Most of the team returned. We gave A&M a good game at home in the opener and were 1-1 and up on Auburn at the half.

And then it all went to shite. Fell apart in the 2nd half and lost to Auburn close. The team just died after that. Then they lost to USM on a cold rainy night and Curley got canned. It was so bad. It also rained during most of the home games that year. It’s a lot of fun when you are in band sitting in a raincoat freezing your arse off watching really bad football.

I’m convinced we wouldn’t have won those last two games if Curley hadn’t been fired, which would have tied for the worst season in LSU history. 4-7 for a team that had bowl expectations and enough talent to get the job done the following year was still awful.

After 5 losing years in a row and some hope it was about to end, that was the most disappointing year I can remember. 98 was a very close second.

Honestly, maybe. Compared to our 2019 team that lost the majority of the starting lineup, we returned basically everyone from our 1997 team and were the favorites to win the West. We really only lost three good players from our 1997 team: Alan Faneca, Chuck Wiley, and Kenny Mixon. We had a senior QB who was entering his 4th year as starter, Kevin Faulk returned for his senior season, Larry Foster, Abrahm Booty, Anthony McFarland, etc. That team had a lot of talent and a lot of experience. If Lou Tepper isn't hired to run that defense, that team had the talent to run the table. We lost 5 games by 6 or fewer points (4 of them by 3 or fewer). We were beating Florida at halftime in the Swamp. We didn't have a bad loss until our last game of the season against a good Arkansas team when it was already over. We actually crushed the West champ, Miss State, 41-6.

I don't think this LSU team was losing fewer than 2 games this year even if Aranda and Brady were still here. We just lost too much from our team last year to be any better than 8-2.

It can't be worse (mathematically speaking) than the 2-9 season in 1992.

Let's see...Donte Starks, Marcel Brooks, Justin Thomas, Tyler Shelvin, Jamar Chase, Kary Vincent, Siaki Ika, Brennan out for the year and that's not even taking into account Burrow, CEH and maybe 10 other veteran players from last year.

May of us saw this as potentially a down year. O has earned himself an extended grace period as he is only the 4th coach in LSU history to win a national championship. The tell will be how we finish this recruiting cycle. We are currently ranked 3, 4 & 6 nationally. If we hold onto what we have and pull in Smith, Foreman & Leigh or something close, then we'll be on track. The defense has been playing much better and we'll see how that translates against Bama. If you're looking for the worst teams in history, look no further than the Curley Hallman era.

Really man, we only lost like 5-6 good players just like everyone else.

My count is different.

Lost 4 coaches from 2019: Aranda, Brady, Munoz, Robinson

Had to learn new defense.

Lost 41 guys off of the 2019 roster.

4 left or were dismissed during 2019 season: Lanard Fournette, Kenan Jones, Dee Anderson and Kendal McCallum.

11 seniors - Burrow, Dillon, Sullivan, Magee, Lewis, Traore, Ferguson, Lawrence, Fehoko, Fulton and Divinity.

9 entered draft early - Jefferson, Cushenberry, Charles, Moss, Edwards-Helaire, Chaisson, Queen, Phillips and Delpit.

1 graduated with eligibility - Savage

3 dismissed - Starks, Parrish, Parker

3 Opt outs - Shelvin, Chase, Vincent, Marshall

9 transferred - Culp, Campbell, Monroe, Brooks, Pettigrew, McLendon, Justin Thomas, Travez Moore, Siaki Ika

1992.

The 0-30 loss at Arkansas that year was the most depressing Tiger game I have ever watched. Yes, even worse than the 3-58 Florida game the next year.
