I consider myself a TRUE fan... I grew up in NE Louisiana, and went to Northeast because they had a very good nursing program which has served me very well in my career. However, I was raised an LSU fan, and lived in Baton Rouge while my husband attended LSU. We are a purple and gold family to the core, but most people would easily say that I am much more FANATIC about LSU football than he is... He's the alum, so why does that make his fanhood more worthy than mine???

Okay, so in order to be a "true" Tiger fan, I have to be an alum, my purple & gold goggles were so thick that I thought we would win every game in the 90's, and I have to lead my other Tiger fans in pep rallies instead of expressing my anxiousness about out starting QB's.

Sorry, j/k. You are probably a much bigger LSU football fan then me. I don't have a problem with that. I go to every home game becasue I want to. I want to scream cuss words at Bama, I want to stand up when Georgia scores and scream LSU until they kick the damn ball off agian. There wouldn't be 95,000 people in there if it were something we all couldn't share.

so if you didnt attend LSU, you are a fricking loser and you should never show yourself wearing LSU colors again? please..

when you get called an "lsu freak" by everyone including your parents i beleive that just may qualify you as...umm..a fan?

If I fricking said that there must be alternate universe that I post in, but am not aware of. If you can seriously take that from what I said, something isn't right. Is there a filter that stops people from understanding english?

I don't have the energy to read this thread, but I would like to take the time to say that I could not believe all the negative calls I heard on the radio show after the game Saturday, WE WON BY 38 POINTS, SO CAN WE ENJOY THAT, PLEASE? I turned the radio off, it was disgusting. I'm proud of our team. GEAUX TIGERS!

i wasnt even responding to you..just some of the posters that think if you never attended lsu that you have no business cheering on the team or qualifying yourself as a "true fan".

quote:Why? I've always marveled at this "logic". What possible benefit ensues that makes being over critical better than being what you call "delusional"? How does spending a week thinking, "this might be the year we beat Spurrier again!" and then spending a night with the disappointment of the loss, end up worse than spending the whole week already disappointed with loss already and then having the exact same disappointment when we lose anyway? Does it really make you feel less bad about an LSU loss if you can say, "I told you so" or "I knew that was coming"?
i'd ratehr be a little over critical than delusional
quote:Maybe you've seen that criticism, but the criticism I've always seen of Bama fans is not that they always act like they are better than they are, but that they specifically act like they think they are better than everybody else because they are Bama. There is a difference. Saying, "we'll kick your arse because we're the class of the SEC and we're Bama and you're just lowly [insert non-Bama SEC team here]" is far different than saying, "well, maybe Josh Booty can finally get back the QB touch he had when he came out of high school and Mealey can crank up the running game so we can outscore the Gators even though they will likely put up a bunch of points on Lou Tepper's D."
which is so funny, b/c i always hear so many LSU fans criticize Bama fans for the same belief
There are very, very few (if any) games where one team has no plausible chance of winning. Not one game in '99 fit that description (see the Arkansas drubbing at season's end). That doesn't mean a win is likely, but just that of all the plausible outcomes, at least some are not bad. And since the fan's expectation has zero impact on the game, or (in my experience) the fan's state of mind afterwards, there just are no legitimate grounds for choosing to anticipate one of the negative outcomes. It's like playing craps for fun instead of money, but still anticipating a crap out on every turn. Yes, it may be a more likely outcome, but does anticipating it really make the experience more fun?

quote:Yes, if the "cons" are actual negative events that have in some way hurt LSU's football team or our chances to win a game or championship. When you start asserting "cons" that have not even happened as reasons to expect LSU to lose games, then you are in fact being pointlessly negative.
Can we at least discuss pro's and con's without being labeled a "negatiger"
Until it actually costs us a game, there is no legitimate cause for anyone not seeking to be negative to assert something as a reason we will lose games. That is not to say that seeking to be negative is wrong. I think it is stupid, counterproductive and unhealthy, but that's not the point.
The point is that there are only two legitimate grounds for raising negatives that are strictly potential (that is, things that have not actually hurt us yet) as concerns for the future:
1) to help prepare against those negatives to reduce the likelihood of their potential harm coming to fruition and them costing us games in the future, and
2) to find a subject to express one's negativity.
Since no one on this board can actually contribute to minimizing the chances of these potential negatives to hurt the team in the future, option 1 is out.
quote:This absolutely has nothing to do with being a true fan or even how much of a fan you are. This is strictly a matter of how a fan chooses to view life as it relates to LSU sports and how he/she chooses to share that view with others on the subject. The greatest LSU fan I know has been a dyed-in-the-wool "negatiger" for almost two decades (at least). I've been trying for years to get him to realize the pointless nature of his ways, but sadly have met with limited success.
or not a "true" Tiger fan?

To sum up: Guys you don't have to have a degree from LSU to bleed purple and gold. LSU is Louisiana's flagship university...it's here for everyone.
It would be great if all of LSU fans were positive...certainly, positive energy breeds positive results, and well, negative energy breeds...you know.
Many fans have reluctantly accepted the fact that on messageboards such as the Rant, there are an amazing number of guys who remain "in touch" with their inner little person with a mental age of about 12 years and post accordingly. It's the reason for all the "sexual innuendos", stunted use of adjectives, homophobia, and general uninformed commentary by those for whom the glass is always half empty..but it also gives the Tiger Nation a chance to connect & hopefully discuss our past wins and our next win. We all just have to grin and bear those who constantly complain and know that each time our beloved Tigers win the crystal football, the naysayers will point out all the mistakes we made in doing so and they will lose that moment in time when as a Tiger fan...it was a great day!
