Y’all better get use to Brennan throwing for 200 and below yards cuz his attempts will be cut on half if we play last nights gameplan

Well Finley has over 200 in the first half... we did run a lot, but that was more so when we were up big, in the first half we were throwing it less, but still often and with success

If that somehow translates to Wins, I don't care.

Will be easier to throw if defenses also have to respect our run game.

No I doubt...we game planned and called for a first time QB.

Brennan is too accurate from long range. If Brennan comes back poised and ready, we have a running game next week our offense will be absolutely disgusting.

Probably more long balls. Last night's game plan took advantage of weaknesses Ensminger saw in the SC run defense and the desire to make it easier on Finley.

No, Brennan can’t run the same offense or make the same throws. No one wants to hear it but it’s true, it’s a much better offense with Finley.

Correct.
Coach said it. He stated, Ensminger started as a true freshman so he knew the pitfalls of starting a true freshman. He schemed accordingly.

IF we play vastly inferior teams, yes.

We should have played that game plan against Mizzou and our season wouldn't be in shambles.

They simplified it, TJ went with first read every throw and it worked well.

Probably won't work against UF and Bama or maybe even Aggie. But we were way to complex early with a new starter and new OL...

That is frankly just blatantly false

Yea, the play of the true freshman QB is the reason we ran for 200+ yds. This may be the rant’s finest hour.

Sure, it’s accurate to say we threw the ball less in the second half.. but that’s because we only attempted 3 passes after halftime.

Even in the first half, our run/pass ratio was way different than what we’ve seen so far. Let’s compare to Vanderbilt, another game where we never trailed:

First half vs. South Carolina (halftime score 31-10):
28 rushing attempts
18 passing attempts
61% rush / 39% pass

First half vs. Vanderbilt (halftime score 21-7):
12 rushing attempts
16 passing attempts
43% rush / 57% pass

Entire game vs. South Carolina (final score 52-24):
54 rushing attempts
21 passing attempts
72% rush / 28% pass

Entire game vs. Vanderbilt (final score 41-7):
32 rushing attempts
37 passing attempts
46% rush / 54% pass

The discrepancy is even larger when you look at the two losses:

First three games:
90 rushing attempts
131 passing attempts
41% rush / 59% pass

Mizzou game:
20 rushing attempts
48 passing attempts
29% rush / 71% pass

Here’s what I think we are seeing:
1. The coaching staff knew they had to establish the run to win games. Coach O said as much after the Mizzou loss. So establishing the run would have been a priority this week regardless of who played QB.
2. Emery and TDP established themselves as the top 2 RB’s in the rotation. Emery started this game, while he was #3 in the rotation earlier in the year.
3. Ensminger changed his game plan for Finley. He didn’t want to rely on a true freshman throwing 25-30 yard deep balls the whole game, so he prioritized the short to intermediate passing game.

The result of a better running game, combined with more high-percentage throws, was that we had much more manageable 3rd downs. As an added bonus, we saw that our receivers have the ability to break off serious yards after the catch. In fact, 87 of Finley’s 265 passing yards came on two big plays by Marshall and Jenkins after the catch.

All of this adds up to a game plan that was significantly different from what we were doing before Brennan’s injury. But it’s also a template for what we should continue to do after Brennan’s return.

No it won't but I hope they try to run more in the first half to find a better balance for Miles.

You think we’re going to be throwing the ball 44x a game and run it 50x as well?
