We will be good at the plate regardless of whether there is a change next year at the plate IMO. With Katz, Rhymes, Ross, Jones and Bregman, it'd be hard not to be. Jacoby would have the most to gain from a new hitting coach.
I'm okay with our patience at the plate....my main beef is our approach against off speed stuff. Our guys look like they've never faced it before when coming to the plate.

Its ashame we couldn't get a few to drop, I think the crowd was juiced and ready for something to cheer about and we just never got it.
Rhymes foul ball by inches last night, think Katz hit a bomb about 50 feet foul, Hanover put one in the left field corner foul by about 10 feet, after the katz homer Raph mashed a ball at the left fielder, Katz in the 8th lines a sure double at the SS and he makes a helluva catch, and Dozar hits one as far as he can in the 9th, and the CF makes a great catch against the wall.
Just not our day
This
We definitely hit the ball better last night but they tracked down everything. The shortstops leaping catch comes to mind too. Just wasn't our day. But Stony Brook was clearly the better team.

Not only that but being able to foul pitches off that you can't hit. You have to protect the plate, but also can't hit balls that are out the zone that could be called strikes. SB did that better than us.

College baseball has too many good programs now and too much parity.
South Carolina, UCLA, and Florida St. (If you are into championship-less Omaha runs) disagree.

their coach had the outfield positioned perfect on multiple occasions too.

Stony Brook was a better team this weekend. As a whole they are not better than us.
I disagree. That team would beat us 8 out of 10 times.

It's almost like they don't think when they are at the plate. Their approach is terrible and look absolutely clueless up there.

good scouting. they knew most of LSU hitters were dead pull hitters. That's why Jankowski had Rhymes shaded so far over. There was a canyon in right center but they knew Rhymes couldn't push the ball that way, or hadn't been I guess.

Also, we should be MUCH improved next year at the plate.
I don't see how.

you have to have faith that players improve. Coaches coach, and help players improve. That's really a dumb comment actually. A kid that comes in as a freshman isn't the same for 4 years. They improve.

Has Javi been given a pink slip yet?

Not only that, but these guys play in summer leagues like the Cape where they get different instruction and learn to see the game in different ways.

I understand that. I just don't see how we'll be that much better at the plate next year. We'll see

Wasn't Eades the pitcher of the year in the Cape last year? And look what he did for us this year.

Katz and Rhymes will hit
Ross made huge strides prior to this year, I expect it to continue
Jacoby had a soph slump, hopefully
Moore should make some strides this offseason with a year under his belt
We have a 1st round talent coming in in Alex Bregman, and other recruits
Sciambra coming back
We should be ok, but a really good hitting coach is needed.

He still has good stuff, he just faded down the stretch probably due to a little arm fatigue. He had a decent start to this season. He'll come back stronger next year.

He hadn't pitched a full season since his JR year in high school.
