it is time to stop depending on BR for players ..

Didn't we only have 6 players from BR on the 35 man roster this year.....Edward, Moore, 2 Nolas, Sciambra and Aaron Johnson?

And while speaking of dropping players, how about Casey Yokum? He was given a shot but fizzled badly. He's a juco with only one year of eligibility remaining anyway. No need tying up a roster slot for him, IMO.

travis jankowski was a fricking stud in CF .. in the 9th inning, he had a bead on a ball all the way to the wall that our guys would be chasing down and trying to hold the runner to a double ... our season started spinning in CF when we had to bring jones back to 2B because casey sucked at second .. then chris sciambra got hurt and we had nothing behind him that was the complete package .. i kind of wonder how this season would have turned out if chris hadn't gotten hurt ..

Yep. After the "enemy" comment, I quit going to meetings. I stayed a member to support the program but stayed away the last 6 meetings before Smoke was fired.

yeah, and that still actually might be too many .. when the smoke clears, i think only the two nolas and sciambra will have/have had a major positive impact on the day in, day out lineup .. i saw johson pitch in HS, btw .. he doesn't excite me at this level .. moore strikes out too much and edward is over his head at this level ..

yeah, he was one of the others that i had in mind too .. also jared foster and possibly jackson slaid ..

Make no mistake, this thread was coming at some point (unless we won it all) whether we won yesterday or not.

Most freshmen do. I think he's worth keeping for at least one more year. He actually became a decent first baseman, IMO. The best thing about him is he won't be a freshman next year.

oh .. i am not saying shite can tyler moore .. just dial down the love for the parkview and dunham programs .. moore has some upside .. he came through to save the season on friday ...

eta: and i think with a new hitting coach/new approach at the plate philosophically benefits a kid like moore and many others down the road, russian .. i think jacoby jones improves overnight with a new hitting coach .. i really hope maineri makes this change after the last two seasons ..

I've heard the same about smoke....not a very big fan of LSU fans. All the fat jokes must have taken their toll.

back to recruiting, I think CPM has had a massive overrreaction to the bat changes. Bringing in small ball guys, but CPM has never been a small ball guy and can't really coach it properly and that's showing on the field. So at times we look like an awkward team struggling between small and also wanting to hit for power. I don't really know how to put it in words.

that's a really good point .. it is like we are forcing ourselves to take on an identity that our coaching is just not comfortable with and seems to dial up at the wrong times .. the new bats didn't seem to bother stony brook .. and when they needed to bunt, they executed flawlessly this weekend .. i hate to keep harping on needing a change at the hitting coach spot .. but going from grewe to dunn changed our pitching staff overnight .. how can a change on the offensive side not yield the same result ?

He was a weird dude.

In his next to last season as HC he asked for volunteers from the Coaches Committee to come up with ways to raise money voluntarily from fans (like having a golf tournament or a softball game by former baseball players, etc.) and to be the organizers of those events.

I volunteered along with about 10 others. We would meet one evening a week at the Box using the team meeting room in the "trailer" behind the first base grandstands. Smoke never even spoke to us even though his office was in that trailer. At our last meeting he walked out passing by us on his way out without even acknowledging we were there.

I looked around the room and said out loud, "frick it. (The group was men only.) If the head coach won't even speak to us, what are we doing here?" I got up and left. The group never met again.

right whenever the change went down CPM immediately began protesting and seem to give up on the notion that we could ever be a good hitting team again with these changes.

teams like stony brook and FSU have still found ways to hit for power though

Jesus .. that is weird ! He asks you guys to come up with ways to raise money and then doesn't even stick his head in to lend even a shred of moral support ? That dude was on the verge of emotionally bankrupting the program .. I guess in the end we all found out the hard way what we suspected all along .. that smoke literally rode skip's coat tails ..

i guess we're just going to have to see how CPM adjusts his philosophy, recruiting-wise, offensively to compensate for the new bats .. this change seems to have not derailed programs like south carolina, florida, florida state, etc. ... these guys made adjustments on the fly .. it will be interesting to see how this class works out for CPM .. his next signing class might be his most important for the rest of his tenure at LSU ..

Stony Brook hasn't really hit for power this year (until this series) but they sure have a solid approach at the plate I'd like to see from our guys consistently. Last night we hit well IMO, just wish we could've done it more consistently throughout the season

Are you saying we hit well compared to low expectations you had going into the game or do you actually feel we hit well lastnight?

I felt like we actually hit well last night, although it didn't show, we must've hit 10-12 shots right at that LF and CF. It may have looked different on TV.

But to anyone who was there, it sure seems like alot of well hit balls that their OFs got to.
