Unfortunately many will be in for a shock when he retires. Coach Shamrock may pull one more out of his butt as he leaves through the door, but if not, the appreciation for him will be too late...for many anyways, not me.

Yep. I'm willing to cut him some slack on the Iowa game since he had already announced he was leaving. But don't forget:
- OM in '01 in TS
- Arky '02 (no excuse for that)
- UF in '03 at TS (we too were fortunate to get to the BCSCG that year)

Of all the things Coach Saban did for the program, the culture change is most appreciated by me. He noted the 'deer-in'the'headlights' look the club had acquired. Thank Gawd he got rid of that cancer.

I like Les Miles VERY much and I really like having his as our coach. However, notice Bama lost just as many folks as we did to graduation, draft, etc. Bama though, still plays fundamentally sound football every week. Maybe some growing pains here and there but solid and disciplined. Thats is ALL coaching!!!

Les will probably never get the credit he deserves because Saban got here first. Some of these people must have become Tiger fans in 2000 because they seem to have forgotten the late 70's, 80's and 90's.

The Louisiana talent does not line up to come to LSU just because it is LSU (ask Arnsparger, Archer and Hallman if that is true), you have to go get it. Once you get it, you have to do something with it (ask Hallman and Dinardo about that one). For the first 3 years it was "he wins with Sabans players" or "he can't coach them up". In year 4 and 5, they all said "see what we told you". Then Year 7 came along and it was "yea, but Saban started it" etc.....

Saban did in fact start it but Miles has shown that he can get talent of his own and he can coach that talent well enough to be undefeated in the regular season, with one of the most brutal schedules I have ever seen. In some peoples eyes, 21-0 destroyed all that. Yea, it hurt, but it didn't destroy what those guys accomplished last year.

And to the Les is stubborn argument. I contend that you can't rise to a level of success in the coaching business if you are not stubborn. Simply review the list of what is generally considered the greatest of all time and every one of them was stubborn. Anyone want to allege that Nick Saban may not be the most stubborn of them all?

Mistakes, sure Les makes some. They all do. Some have chronicled some of Nick Sabans (don't forget the 31-0 pasting Bama gave LSU when Saban was here) in addition to others. No one suggests that Saban is not great. His mistakes at LSU are now glossed over because we would have sold our children to win when he arrived. Now, we are spoiled.

CLM is a great coach and should and deserves more respect for the way he carries himself and represents LSU. unlike saban who is a great coach with a poor personality.

Unfortunately for Miles, he has to live up to a standard now that NO OTHER COACH IN THE COUNTRY has to:

Beat the "genius" Nick Saban twice in a season.

Until then, he's a Tier 2 Coach in a Tier 2 Program.

Sincerely,

The College Football Media AND
A Large Portion of the RETARD LSU Fan Base

Well said... It's really sad that the majority of our fanbase still deep down doesn't care for miles..... And that is proven after the smallest of screw ups... They come out of the woods pointing the finger...

there is one reason he doesn't get the recognition - the arch-enemy Saban. doesn't matter about their head to head - saban's got 3 NC's to his one

But 1 of his 3 has a gigantic asterisk since they shouldn't have been in the MNC game to begin with. I think les is definitely on Sabans level but he will never get national pub as such until he wins another natty.

I laugh at everybody complaining Miles is too stubborn.

Ever met any person who is excellent at what they do who is not stubborn?

You want a great coach NOT to direct things as he believes his team will have the best chance for success?

As it turned out, I think Miles should have played Lee in the second quarter on 1/9, then maybe we get a spark and things might have turned out better.

But he had won his last two games against quality opponents by sticking with JJ through thick and thin, because our defense provided us critical sparks, when our offense was getting slammed.

Miles felt like Lee was not a smart option. He would not keep his cool against that vicious Bama rush, cause Lee had already demonstrated that in Tuscaloosa. If Lee comes in and turns it over or throws a pick 6, it could really demoralize the team and make it nearly impossible to win the game.

So Les chose to dance with who brung him thru the Arkie and GA comebacks. He knew he would need our defense to make a big play or two to give us a chance, but he thought that was our best chance to win. Then, unlike the Arkie and GA games, our defense did absolutely nothing for us.

Miles played the odds as he saw 'em, and in hindsight it probably wasn't a bad call on his part. It just didn't work out that time. We were playing a buzz saw, 'cause we never took their momentum away and made something happen.

We've come out on the positive side of Les playing the odds plenty of times, so we have to accept a few times when it doesn't turn out in our favor, especially in a war with a great opponent.

Truth is - Bama was definitely the better team that day, and they clearly deserved the win.

But...

There is nobody I'd rather have deciding our best course of action on the sidelines than Les Miles. He's gonna win more of those titanic battles than he loses, and he has done that already in his 7-year tenure at LSU.

It won't always be pretty, but that is not the top priority for Coach Miles. First and foremost, he has a want for victory, and he is as good as it gets in college football at accumulating W's.

Stubborn? Damn straight.

You think Nick Saban and Urban Meyer aren't stubborn?

I have proof Les isnt stubborn

My les story:

I was getting breakfast at Lod Cook and grabbed a strawberry banana yogurt. Les was behind me and asked "Strawberry banana huh?" I replied Yes sir. He said "I want yogurt but I dont really like bananas." I told him that strawberry was the predominant flavor and he said huh ill have to try that out.

Thats the true story about how I convinced Les to try strawberry-banana yogurt

Yeah, using their record as a way to evaluate a coach is a TERRIBLE idea. LOL Everyone knows that coaches are not hired/fired/evaluated on success (wins/losses) on the field.

no VC, coaches are hired to please the internet message board posters who know EVERYTHING about college football because they've won back to back to back titles on NCAA 2013

the most important statistics when it comes to head coaches in the NCAA are WINS, GRADUATION RATE, AND PLAYERS WHO ARE DRAFTED/NFL READY

les is a top 3 coach in america

DEAL WITH IT

First off CLM is a GREAT coach.. Any other argument is stupid.. That being said with all the in-game issues we've had it would be hard to put him into a top 3.. CLM strength is recruiting and motivating.. Not game management..

My top 3:
Peterson
Saban
Snyder

I really don't know why Les needs any props from anyone. His record stands for itself. He has and I believe will be the greatest coach ever to be on the sidelines of Tiger Stadium. He is a great coach, by all accounts a great family man and all around person. Perfect? No, but damn good enough for me.
