Yeah true.
It's sad the only thing I remember is his big arse driving around in that tiny sports car.

It really is amazing how this has happened. It's almost like a victim of a horrific crime that has blocked it from their memory.
Even announcers, nay especially announcers, don't even bother to mention Smoke when talking about the evolution of the program from the 90's to now. Always talk about Mainieri filling Skip's shoes. I find it hilarious.

You're right.
I should have said Will Davis "played at LSU" not "played for Skip" and his dad coached under Skip.
Thanks for the correction.

Promoting Dean to hitting coach is dumber than promoting Javi a few years ago. Neither were qualified.

Good for Will. I think he will be a fine college coach.

I have a feeling that some people will not like the logic of this statement.

put him up for an out of state hs job, last year & he decided to not apply - i would want him as a coach of my grandkids

Give me Dunn & Maineri and the rest is butter.

I think Dean has been good for a number of players just from a mental standpoint and someone that was just in their shoes a few years back.
But no he does not have the credentials of a Alan Dunn and I don't think Dean wants to be a college coach as a career but he would make a good one down the line.

I would be much more concerned if Dunn was being mentioned as a head coach somewhere else.
If you ever get a chance to talk to the guy, take notes. He knows baseball, especially pitching strategies.
I've only talked to him once for about 10 minutes and I walked away feeling like I had just been schooled on the game of baseball! He made me feel sooooo inadequate.

I'm surprised that Dunn's name has not come up for any HC position. I realize he does not have any HC'ing experience on his resume, but all the yrs of pro ball coaching should stand for something; that plus the job he's done with LSU's pitching staff. The staff's ERA alone is a great credit to his coaching abilities.

Javi Sanchez, LSU: Could the Cowboys go back to the same well that brought them Bianco in 1998? Sanchez has served as LSU’s hitting coach for five years under Paul Maineri. Much like Bianco, he’s a Florida native with no real Southwest Louisiana connection, but could make a nice career jump with a few years of success at McNeese.

I think he would definitely be a candidate at Alabama if Gaspard were to leave or get fired. Dunn played at Alabama.
To me it would be disheartening if the gumps got him.

He might make a fantastic coach one day soon, however:
This is the only reason he played college baseball. He was one of the worst baseball players I ever played against. His throws down to second literally had an arc on them.
Hope he lands the gig though.

Will ain't ready IMO. Have taken kids to camp and this seems to be his level. Very arrogant from what I hear! He has made no decisions on those teams. Maybe become top assistant somewhere first!

I can't comment on Davis specifically, but I do know that if I were a McNeese fan, I wouldn't be too happy about us hiring a guy that had not been higher on the ladder than 3rd assistant.
You can say he's been groomed by a good coach and all, but there are things he's never had to do, or been able to do, due to his position. Chief among them is recruit off campus. Volunteer assistants are not allowed to do that.
Why would McNeese hire a guy that's never been on the recruiting trail to be their head coach?
