I really don't know, maybe, but to me, if he does, then he does it for every game, not just the ones we score under 30 points.

When the offense plays great and scores alot, Crowton had his hands fully on the playcalling, but when it doesn't, Miles has his hands in it?

basic ranter logic

when Miles wants to throw a game he'll start calling random shite. I thought this was common knowledge?

whenever the offense struggles....

the rantards claimed Saban handcuffed Jimbo

the rantards claimed Miles handcuffed Jimbo

the rantards claimed Miles handcuffed Crowton

anyone else see a pattern...

Miles/Crowton dynamic aside, I think I've seen what he's getting at though:

Some games, you'd see a series where the offense is what I call 'all over the place' in a good way. Times when so many different playmakers are getting the ball in unpredictable ways, and the offense is moving at will. I remember saying 'man Crowton is unleashing his genious' and noticing how diverse the playcalling was. I think he is at his best when spreading the ball around the entire field. I wish I could point out specific drives, but I'm too lazy to go back and search. However, I think you guys have seen what I mean.

Then, in that very same game, we'd start to see more repeats of the generic run/pass plays going to only a couple ballcarriers. I don't know, it's hard to describe. Everything just goes a little more vanilla, with some of the more unique plays (that worked) never getting called again. And while we all like 'trick' plays on occasion, I'm not even talking about those.

There is some element of jekyl/hyde at work, but it's hard to put a finger on. There is no doubt he is capable of outstanding playcalling, we just wish we'd see it more regularly. Perhaps the quarterback situation had him a bit more handicapped last season - hopefully we'll see him in top form with a couple mobile quarterbacks at his disposal.

it has seemed in two seasons, we'd see a GREAT play, and then never see it again the rest of the year...

I think that this was his major point of criticism when he was OC at Oregon. It's almost as if he has so many weapons at his disposal that he sometimes can't figure out a way to work them all into the offensive scheme.

There are 2 pass plays that LSU ran during the 2007 season that seemed to work every time. One was the play when he had Flynn roll out and then throw back across the field to the opposite side. The other was the no huddle quick pass to the tight end that scored 2 TDs in the BCSCG. It reminded me a lot of Tim Tebow's "basketball pass". I love how Crowton has used the TE more as a weapon as opposed to just being an extra blocker.

it goes from filet mignon to 99 cent hamburger between series... and then back again.

from wide open march down the field to conservative 3 and out.

like in the other thread...

we get to see scott and keiland on the field at the same time with scott taking a handoff or blocking or keiland, and it works really well and...

nothing.

never saw it again the rest of the season.

Here is a thought. Maybe the defense of the other team adjusts and our execution isn't quite the same.

Think of it this way, A shooter is hot, you make an adjustment, put a bigger guy on him, all of sudden, same shooter is not as hot. Same shooter, same plays, just not as successful. you try switching plays, shooter is now tired and doesn't hit the same shots.

I think you can make this same assessment on every offense or defense in the country. Sometimes they are hot, then don't get the same execution, due to fatigue or the other team makes an adjustment and they aren't as successful. the fan's in the stands assume the opinion if they would have done this or done that it would have worked.

At the end of the day, when you can put up close to 400 yards a game and 30 points, you have a successful offense and a very good o.c./h.c. whomever is making the play calling.

What about the job Miles did with the 2006 offense? Personally, I thought the last 5 games of the year the play-calling was great. We began seeing JaMarcus tuck it and run for 15 yards at a time, the misdirection slant to Bowe and Doucet across the middle, and the Tennesseee game was the first time I recall seeing the fullback fake quick pitch out to Keiland. The slant and the pitchout have been very effective for us ever since. And I don't think it was Jimbo behind the 2006 offense at the end of that season.

FWIW, do you think Miles has his hands mixed in with the offense?
