For saying the floor has been bad?

What does this 2026 team do well? Are we a good hitting team? Are we a good pitching team? Are we a good defensive team? Do we steal a lot of bases? Do we slide well? Do we block balls in the dirt? Do we throw out a lot of runners attempting to steal? Do we have good pickoff moves to first base? Is the batting lineup settled? Do we know who our key bullpen guys are and how many outs can we expect out of them?

It's more than just "we missed on one or two guys in the portal that we really wanted".

3 of the 6 have come in Jay's 5 seasons as head coach at LSU. The ceiling under Jay has been amazing, but the floor has got to improve.

Recent CWS champions results following the championship :

2021 Mississippi St - missed next two postseasons
2022 Ole Miss - missed next two postseasons
2023 LSU - eliminated in regional
2024 Tennessee - eliminated in Super Regional

It looks like, unless something changes, it’s going to be hard to be consistent in this current era.

Since 2008, LSU has earned the right to host a home regional all but 6 of those seasons (not counting Covid).

Since 2001, LSU has earned the right to hoist a CWS/NC trophy 3 times in those 26 seasons. 2 of those 3 times, Jay Johnson was the one holding it.

It’d be nice, but I think we’re all gonna have to watch how this new landscape plays out and recalibrate expectations. Just like more teams will have the opportunity to win in Omaha, some of the blue bloods are probably gonna have seasons like we’re having now. We don’t get to roll out our purple LSU helmets and intimidate the everybody to at least 40 wins every year any more. Our 8 NCs don’t win us games anymore.

Now, I don’t think we should be missing the tourney or anything. But all coaches are having to navigate this new terrain in real time. They’re having to take chances and try new things. In a sport where the gap between the best teams and the worst was already the smallest. He missed this year, but I can’t imagine anybody will work as hard to figure out whatever the best formula for sustained success is gonna wind up being.

I’d go 0-45 every other year with an NC every other year, personally. This season has been frustratingly to watch, but I’m not personally offended like Jay and the players have done me some great disservice. It’s baseball. It’s life. shite happens.

Jay ain't firing his guys outright. May see a few quietly move on to other schools.
oh yeah? Who’s going to be pushed out?

Because it won’t be Wanaka, Jordan, or Yeskie. Don’t see Simpson or Turk being pushed out.

So who’s “quietly” going to leave? Ben Nippolt?

If any of the staff leaves, it will either to be head coaches or elevated roles like Simpson at UGA.

I don’t have any clue if that is personnel (coaching) changes or just changes to their process, game prep, offseason, etc.

I think you see a lot of this. I think he's going to go over every little thing they do and see what they could do different/better. I doubt he asks Jordan or Yeskie to leave.

I find your post interesting. It brings out a reality that I just don't seem to find in other sports, the dominant teams, which LSU has proven to be the most dominant program in college baseball, all seem to continue their dominance year in and year out. In football, programs like Bama, Ga, Ohio St seem to self perpetuate excellence every year. Maybe not Natty's but they are in the running. In basketball, it seems the same programs fight it out yearly and maintain excellence, I guess mainly because the group of great players stay around or they have excellence on the bench always ready.
So your stats show something different in college baseball. Is it because of the MLB draft? or what.
I bought in to the fact that top players wanted to come play for the most dominant programs, getting their best chance at a Natty and recognition. I thought LSU would continue to benefit from this dominance.
So, I ask why is LSU so devoid of talent this year. Is there any other explanation other than our coaches completely blew it in evaluation of top players wanting to come to the top college program, with the best fans in college baseball? How can that happen? Your stats seem to show that this isn't uncommon, but I still cannot fathom how an LSU team could be so devoid of real baseball talent. It is perplexing and I would be interested to know what others think about how/why it could and did happen at LSU.

Not sure what you are asking.

I frimly stand that LSU should not be traveling for regional play 2 out of 4 years and missing the tournament altogether in year 5.

You keep running from your statement.

Do you still think things need to change? Or, is the NC in 2 out of 5 with 2 non-host regional appearances enough?

When you've won a title every other year at a school, the "floor" being miss the tourney or a regional exit is pretty acceptable outside of that

Would not be opposed to finding a really strong hitting coach but don’t think it’s an urgent need.

JJ will get it fixed and this season may be the catalyst to never seeing it again with his tenure

Where have I said anyone needs to be fired?

I do think to coaches need do a better job. It’s not just “we need more money”.

What part of this team would you consider well coached?

Man, every time I look at the rant I'm reminded we have some of the most stupid fans in all the world. This post and a few others in this thread alone are a reminder of that.

We just won a national title, lost a lot of players last year to the draft and graduation while also having our freshman class raided by the draft and you frickers want to fire coaches because we've had one down year. Pitiful.

It's what makes the Rant stupid and funny at the same time!

Agree changes are coming. Not saying that anyone needs to be fired but we need change is training, strategy, analytics and just getting back to basics! May be add a few assistants, consultants or specialized support staff.
