re: Will CLM really give Harris a substantial number of snaps

quote:i don't think anyone is not "behind Jennings". You are acting like Jennings has 100% earned the starting job. My argument is that based on Harris playing last week, it doesn't appear that the coaches believe that Jennings has 100% earned the title "starting QB."
This thread is retarted. After Saturday when Jennings runs the O to perfection, and Harris looks lost, can we please just get behind Jennings this year? Harris will get his, but it won't be this year as a True Freshman. . .
And, I don't think insulting Harris (aka, Harris looks lost) is fair. Sure, maybe he didn't call out the OL blocking call loud enough in the huddle on one play. But, he got them the play. You can't really fault him for 2 running play calls and a terrible job of blocking by the OL. The same way you can't blame Jennings for the lack of offensive production when he was handing it off up the middle on 1st and 2nd down every drive.
My only point was that people like you are handing Jennings the reigns and acting like he's played great. He hasn't. His stats are pretty mediocre, even if a lot of the blame can be laid at play calling. But, maybe the play calling is bad because the coaches haven't seen enough from Jennings in practice to warrant more trust?
IMO, it looks like the competition is open. Maybe it won't be after this week of practice.

As we all know, stats can be misleading. From watching the game, I'd say Jennings has made substantial progress and looked pretty damned good in the second half against the Badgers.
I do think, however, we'll all get a good look at Harris.

irrational argument. You want the backup to get a few snaps so that if he has to do in due to injury, it's not Snap #1 for him. I'm not saying that the competition is closed, but Harris getting a few snaps isn't indicative of anything other than it's wise to get your backup some experience.

against SHSU? I wonder. He has always been "reluctant" to play back up QB even with the game completely out of hand. Do not recall that he has ever explained this e.g. Mettenberger, J. Lee etc.
No. Whatever Miles says to the press it will be the total opposite in the games.

quote:True, not to mention the retarded* play calling in the first half. It is really hard to know how Jennings would look had the play calling been better in the first half. I really had two main points:
As we all know, stats can be misleading. From watching the game, I'd say Jennings has made substantial progress and looked pretty damned good in the second half against the Badgers.
1. Jennings hasn't looked nearly as good as people are pretending. Whether that's play calling or his lack of progress in practice and gaining the coach's trust is unknown at this point. The play calling in the 1st half could've been because he hasn't shown anything in practice. Or, his play and stats could be because the play calling was terrible.
Who knows? Either way, his play on the field has been inflated by fans who have a desire to see one QB grab the reigns and lead this team. I don't think he's done that yet.
2. The coaches putting in Harris in that situation says a lot about our QB situation. Up until that point, either the coach's didn't see a huge difference between Jennings and Harris in practice (aka, Jennings won out to start, but not by a whole lot). Or, Harris has just been extremely impressive and they think he has the opportunity to take the starting job from Jennings.
Either way, I think that at least based on last week, we can see that the coaching staff hasn't settled on a one QB system. If they had, Harris would have had zero snaps instead of 3. Now, maybe that changes after the coaches review film and this week of practice.
We just have a difference of opinion. You think Jennings earned the starting job in the 2nd half. I think he played okay enough not to lose, and our WRs, OL, RB, and Defense took over the game. IMO, we won in spite of Jennings last week. And, I don't think he did anything that should eliminate a QB competition at this point.
If Jennings gets 99% of the snaps again this week, then I'm wrong and the coaches have awarded him the job. We shall see.

quote:uh....when's the last time that Les Miles has played the #2 QB in the first game of the year, against a top 15 opponent, away from home, while we are losing? Oh, and then tell me the last time that a true freshman QB has seen one snap with Les Miles not due to injury?
You want the backup to get a few snaps so that if he has to do in due to injury, it's not Snap #1 for him. I'm not saying that the competition is closed, but Harris getting a few snaps isn't indicative of anything other than it's wise to get your backup some experience.
Harris getting 3 snaps this week would mean nothing, IMO. But, he got snaps in a crucial point of a very important game, that was essentially on the road, while we were losing. That's a pretty big indication of our QB situation.

and not just doing a qb sneak or handing the ball off. miles/cam had harris PASSING on the 3rd down play. that just tells me they trust harris a shite ton.

Good points, but the STAFF only gave Harris three plays. What was learned I wonder.

We have a starting qb who has never played 2 weeks in a row and we're focused on our freshman backup? How bout we keep the main thing the main thing?
