Why was Chase ranked lower than Marshall in HS?

Obviously rankings don't always get things right and we have seen players come in and surpass their peers who were more well regarded as preps (Odell and Jarvis, Greedy and Fulton, TDP and Emery). But Chase has been so dominant so early that it is hard for me to understand why he would have only been a 4 star on most sites while Marshall was a consensus five star. Was it just Marshall's physical attributes that made him more well regarded?

Injury was a big reason.
Marshall has pretty unreal measurables too.

Parkway throws it all over the place.
Rummel, not as much.

Have you seen Marshall? He looks like a damn DE yet can run like a WR and that’s what he looked like as a freshman. It was all because of his physical attributes.

Not sure what they go by when ranking high school athletes. Eye Test, Stats, Competition you play against, School you play for, etc. I'm sure it all comes into play.

Marshall is the real deal as well. Wait and see.

Marshall needs to stay healthy... he hasn’t proven he can yet

Yep. Marshall is 6'-4" and Chase is 6'-1". Sometimes that makes the difference. And Marshall just looks the part. I'm reluctant to compare anyone to Jerry Rice, but he has that graceful gazelle stride when he runs.
The knee injury set him back coming out of HS and the foot injury this year. He's going to get more attention when he's really full speed.

HS football evaluation is really more art than science. Sometimes a kid checks all the boxes, from a measurable standpoint and just can't catch up to the speed of the game. Other kids are late bloomers.
Regardless, remember when we had 2 starting NFL wide receivers playing lights out (OBJ and Juice) in college for us? Now we have 3.

Marshall had the better measurables coming out (taller, faster, etc) and keep in mind Marshall dealt with a bad injury last year that held him back then again this year had the surgery so he's never been quite 100% here. Marshall was 6'3, 193 with a 4.53 verified 40 and 35" vertical, that was numbers back in his junior year before senior year too. He also had 2600 yards receiving his junior and sophomore years before not playing his senior year due to injury.
Chase didn't test as well but he was known for making really tough catches and big plays still. A handful of folks who report on LSU recruiting said Chase could very likely be the best WR that class once he gets here and I think that's turned out to be the case, but hard to judge Marshall when he's been nicked up his entire time here just about.
Just for reference the first 4 games before Marshall got hurt the catch difference was this between the 3 receivers:
Jefferson - 21 catches
Chase - 21 catches
Marshall - 20 catches
So it was very very evenly split.

Watched Marshall at Battle on the boarder, he looked like he was a college Sr instead of high school, he was so tall and long but was still amazingly fluid, coordinated and athletic. Great routes, acceleration and ability to separate, no one could stay within 5 yards....im guessing he was looked at as having a higher ceiling because of his size

The Paw Patrol are interchangeable. Marashall has the higher ceiling when healthy, but Chase has been very productive. If I was drafting I would choose Marsahll unless he continued to sustain injuries, but boy, you talk about value if you get Chase.

Did you give them this name yourself? Because I am sure they would NOT approve of it.

Go find his HS video. He was so polished even then.
We have three excellent WRs. I'm not going to quibble over who is best

Chase plays like he is 6'6"
It's rare that you see him beat on 1 on 1 balls and he high points a lot of balls easily

True and I think Chase rose late, but he was approaching 5 star at the end. The buzz at the Opening was that he was the best WR there. If I remember correctly we were close to losing him to Florida. I'm so glad he chose LSU.

Jarvis Landry = chase.
Production. Plain and simple.

I’ve played both. Marshall lit us up and Chase did the same. Both unreal

Chase was a bit underrated but still a high 4*. Jefferson was way underrated and will continue to prove that at the next level. Marshall is a BMFer and his TD against Bama’s DB7 shows you why his ranking is justified.

Marshall didnt have a TD on Diggs that was Chase. Marshall had the TD on the super busted Bama coverage.
