On that opening kick off return vs UCF, anyone else with speed would’ve taken that to the house
A speed guy likely wouldn't have gotten out of the initial scrum that he broke through, so this idea is stupid.

Maybe someone with more speed and less elusiveness..... Perhaps less field vision would have gotten tackled at the 30. I've seen it all here now. It's been years since someone broke free on a kickoff return. It finally happens and then the resident rant retard complains about top end speed of the guy who finally broke free
This is a weird flex but okay

I’m still wondering why Miles waited till Patrick Peterson’s last year at LSU to let him return. I guess it’s a trust issue with ball security. There are plenty of speed guys on that team who probably returned in High School.

Kick returns are slowly becoming extinct.
Either you have a kicker that can knock it thru end zone or you are pooching it inside 10 to get a fair catch. Helaire didn't have many chances to return any this year but is fine in that role. The only reason they will keep it in the game is for onside kicks.
Punt return is where they have to improve just to improve field position.

This always puzzled me. He’s not a homerun threat type of guy.

I suspect because of his vision.
Certainly speed is a desirable trait (and it's not like Helaire is a TE. He has some speed). But that doesn't always work out if you don't have vision to go with it.
Many times you will see a pure speed guy come flying up field and either (a) run slap arse into a pile or (b) get crushed because he never sees the defender coming at him. The flip side is on the occasions the blockers blow open a huge hole directly in front of the speed returner.
At the end of the day I don't know if I would say CEH is the #1 option. Just maybe the best option of what is available.
Dillon is probably faster, but I think there are some ball control concerns. Aside from him, I don't know if there are any WR's who are significantly faster than CEH (Maybe Chase?). Also, O may want a guy who is used to handling the ball back there as opposed to a DB.

Check out CEH's Hudl highlights from his Junior year. He is unreal returning punts/kicks.

DIdnt he break a handful of tackles to get into the open field?

Only on this fricking website will people bitch about something that works.

Because the short answer is: Jonathan Giles sucked

1. He has good vision.
2. He's hard to tackle.
3. He is dependable.
4. It sounds very "Louisiana-ish" when on the first play of the game the announcer says: "Back deep to receive for the Tigers is Clyde Edwards EE-Lair."

CEH killed it out there on Tuesday

CEH was fine back there. Nick was the questionable one.
Giles was the weakest punt returner I can ever recall in an LSU uniform.
It's ok to be critical of coaches choices in the return game, because overall they were poor.
