Why was CEH kick returner?

This always puzzled me. He’s not a homerun threat type of guy.

On that opening kick off return vs UCF, anyone else with speed would’ve taken that to the house

Kary Vincent imo would’ve been the perfect guy for that role

My only guess is ball security, which is why Giles was returning punts.

Anyone else but CEH and we would have had the ball on our own 25.

Vincent wouldn’t have broken that first tackle attempt. There would have been no house in sight.

He is a pretty shifty guy. It's not all about straight line speed

That run had more than speed to do with it though. CEH had great vision on that run to see the hole along with great power and balance to not go down at contact

Do if you know this, but he broke multiple tackles to get open.

Ball security and he's shifty in open field...yes it's true he gets caught from behind and guys like kirklin and dillion are faster but I'm not sure they break those tackles which put CEH in the open field in the first place.

He’s just a really good football player when the ball is in his hands. He’s elusive and hard to take down. Honestly, he reminds me a little bit of Guice, but not as strong and fast as Guice was

You do realize your KR selection has only a little to do with "taking it to the house"
That is only a very, very occasional occurrence, but a shifty guy can get you field position 85% of the time he returns the ball, which is better than a blazer that can't get past the first two guys.

oh, now it makes sense.

He is nothing like Guice. CEH is not a great back, he has his role, and it will be as backup running back. not that there is anything wrong with that

Well you snarkily dismissed legitimate answers to your question so...

So who is a better KR by your reasoning CEH or Trindon Holliday?

Shifty makes more sense on punt returns. Speed makes more sense on KR. On a kick return defenders fill lanes. A fast player cna break through the gaps. A shifty players cant dance around an entire team. On a punt return though the shifty players only has to make 2 or 3 people miss.

There was a time when Hokie Gajan returned kickoffs for LSU. Took one back 100 yards for a TD and it's seriously doubtful Hokie was the fastest guy on the field.

Speed is a desirable trait in a returner but field vision is just as valuable.
