Outside of money what's the purpose of playing a bowl game, when Kiffin and the staff he may keep can be focused on recruitment and the portal?

1. The early signing period is December 3rd - 5th wherein a vast majority (over 85%) of the HS athletes will be signing LOIs after which a recruiting dead period will ensue until after the NC game.

2. During the dead period only texts and phone calls can be made by staff to perspective student-athletes, no face to face meetings or visits to campus. Quantity of contact by phone and/or text is limited to each student-athlete on a daily and weekly basis.

3. Practice time is capped to only so many hours a day, including meetings, film study, etc. of player/coach contact. Limited to 4 hours maximum per day with an aggregate of 20 per week. So still plenty of staff free time for recruiting (but see #1 and #4).

4. Transfer portal period is January 2nd - 16th for student-athletes to enter the portal. Prior to that period coaches are not allowed to contact student-athletes that may be or have stated intentions of entering the portal.

My response to your post, stupid, stupid, stupid.

Bowl practice is vital. Ten times more important than the actual game.

10x's more important??? All that importance and I doubt LSU scores more than 17pts.

Because even though our wins were not plentiful, those boys went on the field game after game, practice after practice, and put out an effort to get better. They deserve to have the honor of playing in a bowl game, even if in my opinion, there are way too many bowl games that it kinda feels like a participation trophy, in some ways.
Go Tigers!

SEC revenue sharing will not allow turning down a bowl. Even a minor one. SEC wants the money. LSU must carry its load.

Tulane is in the playoffs. LSU is not. Karma. Be aware of karma.

IMO Kiffin gets to look at what his younger players look like and know where he needs to improve

The kids deserve whatever fun they can get out of their season. They love playing the game of football, and thats what its supposed to be about.

The first look at the O line will seal Brad Davis's fate and several of the other players.

The SEC doesn't really allow that since they get a share of revenue. Part of conference obligation.

Did you start following football last week? This is seriously one of the dumbest questions I have ever seen on this board.

His fate was probably sealed when Kiffin watched game film in prep for our game with Ole Miss

A lot of the players have a lot of talent and the ability to be good linemen.

You're assuming that Lane even looked at LSU's Offense when he looked at the film. He probably fast forwarded to the LSU defense every time.

It's probably not a terrible idea to let new staff members see what they have coming back and what they'll need to focus on in the portal. The game itself is meaningless and will probably have a lot of opt-outs.

Something else not really mentioned that Kiffin alluded to, it's respect for Frank and the team. Frank navigated the team through this mess, it wasnt pretty--but we won the two we needed to, and almost knocked off a top 10 Oklahoma at their place. The coaching industry is very protective and usually respectful of their own and it would be a disservice to Frank and the boys to just shut it down early.
