Better question: why do they insist on filling like 80% of the cup's capacity with ice, especially on a cold day such as today?

years ago, my grandfather invited me to his bedside to impart some final words of wisdom on me prior to his passing. it was really difficult to see him that way; he was frail and weak, a shell of his former self. wiping tears from my eyes, i approached his side and knelt down next to him as he turned his head toward me and gave me the biggest smile he could muster. he said, "[DontCare], you're a good boy and i want you to know that i love you and i'll always be looking down on you. there's something i'd like to give you now to remind you of me and to make tough times a little less tough." then, he reached his arm over to the the bedside table opposite where i was kneeling and reached out with his bony hand to grab something on the table, only to clutch it to his chest before presenting it to me. it was his lucky straw. when i took it from his hand, my eyes just began crying uncontrollably. he took his last breath and died right there in front of me.

since that time, i always take papaw's lucky straw with me everywhere.

It's easier to pour bourbon when their is no lid or straw in your way.

I think it would be easier to drink more throuh a straw, therefore people will buy more drinks.

They wont give you the cap to a bottle of water at a Saints game. I asked for it and was told that we couldn't have it because of liability reasons and that they were required not to provide it.
No clue what liability could come from that but I assume its the same as putting the lid and a straw on a cup.

Throwing a full bottle of water closed with a capital does a lot more damage than one without the cap.

Cost is one reason

Trash isn't much of it.

My buddy at zephyrs said because with a lid it is easier to throw in the stands.

Same reason they take the twist off lid from your beer

What is the dumb reason LSU came up with to not have lids and straws for drinks at games?

The primary reason is trash. Straws get caught in places where it makes it hard to pick them all up and will attract ants. In the PMAC, straws get caught in the cracks of the rollup seating area (lower level) and eventually you can't move the seats. That's also why they don't sell peanuts in the PMAC.

The second reason is a safety issue. The drink with a lid can be used as a projectile.

Cost is not an issue.

uhhh, more trash....people chewing on straws while people are walking around putting someone's eye out....spit balls.....flying lids--U know if you were on the top row what you would be doing.

It cannot be cost because the drinks are already sky high.

it is an unwarranted expense so it cuts into profits regardless of how "sky high" the drinks already are IT ALL contributes to the bottom line

Actually, it doesn't. LSU sets the no straw/lid policy, not the company running concessions. If LSU said to use straws/lids, the company would use them.

Either way, LSU gets 40% of sales. May cut into the company's profit, but not LSU.

On home-game nights, George W. Bush tries to leave the office by 5:30 p.m., driving his 4-year-old black Pontiac to Arlington Stadium and wandering between the concession stands, ticket windows and the first base dugout. He welcomes fans, chats with vendors and talks baseball with the athletes whose contracts he now owns.

Bush accidentally poked himself in both of his eyes while checking on the concessions and outlawed the use of straws and lids on sodas at the games. The practice has spread to most sporting events and is called "Bushpoke prevention" because of it beginning in the Ranger organization.
