That’s was 20 years ago…. Move on.

OU was considered a MONSTER that year. The media gave us NO chance to beat them. And LSU absolutely creamed them. Sure, the final score was 21-14, but to hold that team to less than 170 yards was a miracle to the talking heads at the time. USC would have been annihilated. They had ONE top 25 win that year. A weak as baby shite schedule. They never saw anyone close to LSU's level that year.
Tell us you’re clueless without telling us
This is just wow lol

Because L.A. is a top 3 market, where many sports media affiliates are based out of. Sports journalism these days consists of gimmicks in order to gain clicks.
Stroke the ego of 20 million southern Cali residents or the 500,000 Louisiana residents that pay attention to this?

I'm still not a believer in this. Prior to 2003, the last time the AP voted USC national champions was 1972 (USC claims subsequent titles from the 70s that the AP didn't award them).
The perception of a West Coast bias in Heisman voting was also a real thing for a while. Prior to Carson Palmer winning in 2002, the last USC player to win was Marcus Allen in 1981. The only other L.A. finalists in that period were Cade McNown in 1998, and Rodney Peete and Troy Aikman in 1988.
I'm still of the opinion that the 2003 AP vote was more of an agenda against the BCS, not any bias for the L.A. market or against Louisiana/the South. People forget that LSU still got 17 first place votes in that final AP poll.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think Louisiana is considered a fly over state. And it's definitely coastal lol
That’s some real willful ignorance pretending you don’t know exactly what I mean. All they care about is the east and west coast

They beat Auburn by the same amount LSU did that year, only it was on the road vs LSU doing it at home. They also beat Arizona by the same amount LSU did, with both games in Tucson.
They (USC) also didn’t play a conference championship game, unlike LSU who beat #5 UGA, for the second time, in the SECCG.

It really wasn’t a conspiracy. The AP thought USC was the better team before the bowls so there was no real reason for their opinion to change after the bowls. An even simpler explanation is that USC lost on September 27 while LSU lost on October 11. There was nothing unique about their relative standing being impacted by the timing of their losses. It’s standard poll “logic”.

The media wanted to see Oklahoma play USC NOT LSU vs. Oklahoma in the BCS Championship game
AP had it USC, LSU, OU. So I think that statement isn’t accurate.

Whether you think the media gives LSU credit for the 2003 championship or not (I personally think LSU gets ample credit for it) the media has already implicitly given LSU credit for '03 post 2020. After Bama won the irrelevant Covid ship, there was tons of talk in the media about how significant it was for Nick Saban to pass Bear Bryant in total championships. To me, that means the media is basically awarding LSU the '03 title

Because media legend Keith Jackson fawned all over them
At the end of the day it was just the beginning for lsu
Meanwhile usc hasn’t been relevant since Carroll left

AP was told to vote winner of BCS championship game #1 since the BCS was the current format.

Yes it did, I was there and I’m sure many others were also. There was a celebration after the 07 Championship in Tiger Stadium were they presented the trophy.

No, the Coaches were since the BCS was how to award the Coaches' trophy, not the Sportswriters' trophy.
The media recognize USC as 2003 champions, simply because it was the media that awarded USC the championship for 2003. USC has the trophy to prove it.
This isn't as complicated as some seem to want it to be.

LSU—BCS National Champions
All that matters

Wrong it was the coaches poll and 3 of them didn’t vote for LSU

WRONG...AP was told to do the same thing
Posted on 7/28/23 at 4:57 pm to WildTchoupitoulas
The only thing that mattered was the BCS since it was the current Championship system signed on by all institutions making the AP irrelevant

The issue I have always had is that before the season AP agreed to be a part of the BCS and award their trophy accordingly.
Except they didn’t, the AP was never part of the BCS. The BCS used their poll without permission. Perhaps you are confusing the AP with a handful of coaches who, despite the previous agreement with the coaches poll to vote the BCS winner #1 broke ranks and voted for USC, iirc it was 3 coaches that voted for USC, the rest voted LSU

But when it became apparent that things weren’t going to go their way with their darling USC they changed their tune.
This pathetic victim mentality is really so sad.
