The purple jersey, gold helmet/pants combo is my favorite. I would like to see LSU wear it 3 to 4 times a year including some actual meaningful games. Really not a fan of the purple jersey, white pants/white helmet combos.

Yea, mostly teams that weren't very good, but Miss State in 2007 and 2009 had decent teams (not great), Georgia Tech in 2000 was 9-2 and favored over LSU in the Peach Bowl, and Oregon State had a decent season in 2004, but not great. But you're right: most of the purple games have been against much weaker opposition.

Because when we were purple jerseys, we go from the best uni in the land, to the worst!

Last night’s combo is frickin royalty. Wearing white 11 out of 13 games a year gets old.

IMO it should be EVERY non conf home game and break them out for 1 SEC home game a year. When’s the last time we’ve seen the Gators, Tide or Barbers in their whites in Tiger Stadium? It’s been too long.

And throw in the white helmets and pants for 1 if those 4-5 games. Those are pretty clean too.

Eh, I like the tradition. I like the fact that whenever you see a shot of a player on the field wearing that gold/white/gold combo, you immediately know “that’s LSU” because it’s an iconic look.

Maybe I’m overstating how immediately recognizable it is to non-LSU fans. I know other teams - basically anyone with gold pants and gold helmets - wear a similar combo for most of their away games. But to me it’s simply what LSU is supposed to look like.

I do agree that we should wear the purple jerseys for all non-conference home games, not just cupcakes. Not that we’ve had a ton of tough non-conference home games in recent years…

I believe Keltic Tiger has pretty much answered the question with the most validity.
