Can someone who is well-versed in LSU history answer this?

In 1908, LSU went 10-0 and “shared” a national championship with Harvard and Penn. At the very least, we could use Bama logic and claim that national championship anyway. What are your thoughts?

Nobody wants to step up to the plate and fight for it.

LSU was selected by one selector as national champion in 1908. The National Championship Foundation.

Michigan claims titles from the same era where they were selected by only that one selector so there’s precedent. NCF. The National Championship Foundation. Michigan’s 1903 and 1904 titles.

I don't want to claim BS titles like Bama does. But that particular year, I see no reason why LSU should feel ashamed to claim it. They were undefeated and beat the manhood out of every team they faced.

I realize there is some subjectivity involved in the fact that northern and northeastern programs were seen as the power teams of that time, and LSU didn't play any of those teams. But they didn't play LSU, either.

ESPN only aired 1 LSU game that year. Harvard and Penn every damn weekend were on ESPN total BS.

No reason not to claim it. Get the A.D. on the phone and make it happen!

ESPN wasn’t even around until like 1987.

From wiki

quote:

The season was clouded by accusations of professionalism by Grantland Rice and rival school Tulane.[3] The SIAA conducted an investigation that cleared LSU of any wrongdoing, but since many publications voted for the SIAA champion prior to the conclusion of the investigation, they did not recognize LSU's title.

Rice claimed V. Smith, C. Smith, Seip, Fenton, Lally, and Gandy were all paid salaries to play football, and that Clarke was a former All-Western player.[22] Amidst fears of many players being ineligible under SIAA rules, most sportswriters instead gave the Southern title to Auburn,[23] and left LSU players off their All-Southern team.

By Bama logic LSU can claim 2011. They claim one where they lost to ND at the end of the year

I was around then. Doubtful we could’ve hung with Penn.

We should. That one was way more legitimate than some of the ones that Alabama claims. We know Ole Miss would claim it. The banner would be on the side of their 2003 SEC West banner. Lets hang it the day after we celebrate the 2019 National Championship.

UCF literally has a 2017 National Champions banner up in their stadium. They won in 1 poll and considered it “shared”.

If they can do it, LSU should too. May as well hang a banner for our “National Championship” win against them last year too.
