re: Why doesn't Aranda ever get any blame?

This mentality is the problem. The blind hero worship and ignoring facts like having the 31st ranked defense and allowing huge plays at the worst time.
Except almost all scoring done by our opponents was done in late 3rd or 4th quarter. You know, when the offense has gone totally stagnant and keeps going three and out.
You fricking dumbasses have no clue about football. The more your defense is on the field, the more likely they are going to make a mistake.
The two are supposed to compliment each other. But that’s not what happens at LSU. At LSU, the defense is expected to stay on the field THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF OF THE GAME!

Held a&m to its 2nd lowest yards total
Held a&m to least amount of 1st downs all year
Held them to fgs in 2 of the 1st 4 ots.
Without Aranda's defense, LSU probably loses to Auburn, Miss State, and Georgia.

After the defense scored to tie the game, forced a negative yardage 3 and out,and made a 4th down stop.
The problem is they expect the defense to be perfect to cover up our offense.

I agree. I say we fire Aranda and let O hand pick his successor as he will only get us the best coordinators.

-6 yards punt
Lsu defensive td

$2.5 million gets you the 31st ranked defense. Yes, I'm pissed with the defense (in addition to the offense and overall direction of this program and end to the season.)

And no one has any expectations for the offense given who is running the offense. The offense is sadly expected to suck.
The defense however, for what is being paid, shouldn't be letting down in big moments.
I wish we would just make Aranda the head coach and be done with this clown show.

There has never been a defense that stopped everyone always and it never will be

Aranda
His playcalling on 4th down was fricking abysmal
When Mond faced pressure, he panicked. So every single 4th down we only rush 3.
A&M was scoring TDs in the redzone 56% of the time during the reg season. They went 10/12 Sat night.
Aranda deserves alot of the blame

It’s intellectually dishonest to just point at a stat and find fault.
There is plenty of blame to go around and yes times where the D could/should have done better, but overall the lack of “help” from the Off was a consistent problem.
Further, comparing stats is problematic given the toughness of our schedule vs other teams. Cupcake games skew the stats greatly and this year was a tough one.
Saturday, yeah that last TaM drive in reg to tie was bad but also a great example of the season - although they had some great long drives earlier in the 2nd half, our Offense couldn’t make a damn first down to burn the clock and end it. So out goes the D again.
Our Defense this season was excellent but not perfect and was often (but not always) hobbled by an anemic offense.

Defense was great until we stopped rushing mond
Posted on 11/26/18 at 12:27 pm to LSUZombie
In regulation they scored a TD, and only gave up like 24 when we weren’t handing them the ball on Miffed punts.
Also all of the bad calls we are bitching about affected our defense.
Sorry, but I’m not gonna blame Aranda.

Are any of you dimwits able To name the players that were hurt and not available for this game? Doubt it.

Just curious. He's getting paid head coach type money and has tons of talented players but our defense hasn't been great this year. Our defense couldn't make a stop at the end of regulation and then let A&M score in 7 OTs, yet you really don't see a ton of criticism. Our defense was lit up at times this year. Is it simply because we keep getting told that he's a defensive genius?
I'm just going to say I was talking about this stuff the day Aranda was given the raise.
That paying $2.5 million for him was NOT a good thing. It was desperate. It creates complicated layers of responsibility since amount of responsibility is usually tied to pay. It would be nearly impossible for him to be WORTH that much, because a$2.5 mil paycheck makes anything below a Top 3-5 defense a failure.
And, given O and fans penchant for needing to lay blame, it would be super unhealthy. It was a stupid decision that showed how much O relied on Aranda to even field a competent team. As a program we had no leverage against Aranda and O fell right into the trap. The entire situation was Leadership and Program Management 101 and O failed spectacularly. If everyone always did the most expensive thing every single time a problem came up....think about that.
That said, the game was not all Aranda's fault and trying to lay the whole thing at his feet is hilarious.

Dave Aranda is a top defensive coordinator and to say otherwise is just dumb; however, he was partly responsible for that loss how he played so soft to end the game. He also did not even attempt a pass rush on most of the OT downs which gave the WRs and Mond time to get open. Aranda had a bad last drive and OT but he's also the reason we've been in most games this year with a chance to win.
