re: Why does power hitter like Dylan Crews bat first?

If LSU had any players that could hit first and second with high on base %, then Crews would hit 3rd. However, we don't, so the more at bats Crews has the better.
However, with 7-9 hitting in front of him throughout the green, which would be LSU's worst on base % hitters, makes the chances for Crews to drive in players lower than most.

LSU has 6 guys with an OBP above .400 and Thompson is .398. Crews is 3rd behind Dugas and Berry.

He seems to enjoy it. I’d like to see his splits as lead off vs other spots in the lineup. It seems he is at his best there.
Also Jay Johnson has said he prefers someone with good OBP and power in that spot. That’s why you have seen Pearson there too. He feels it is better to have his good hitters with less power in the middle of the order so they more than likely have runners on base so their hits can bring in runners. His thought is every at bat he wants to have a chance to score a run. That’s not practical but setting up your order like he does ups the percentages.

Wasn’t Morgan a pretty good leadoff hitter last year & to start this season? Seems like his knee injury has diminished his overall game & not just his base running & overall speed.
Crews should absolutely bat leadoff from now until his LSU career comes to a glorious conclusion in Omaha w/a walkoff “CREWS MISSILE” for the NATTY!!!

I saw the stat the other day but on average a 1 hole hitter gets 20+ more ABs a year than a 3 hole.
You want Dylan Crews to get as many hits as possible

I'm fine with him at lead off, though I would be strategic with the 8 and 9 hole to try to increase chances of someone on base for him. But yeah if it ain't broke don't fix it

why does Joubert bunt up 7?
Because they played the shift on him and the whole third base side of the diamond was open. It wasn't a sacrifice bunt.

Purely anecdotal but it seems to me that he’s been at his best (both this year and last year) when he’s been in the lead off spot.
Sample size bruh.
For what it's worth, he has only batted leadoff 6 times before today.

Best bat gets the most ABs. Sounds great to me.
He has said in the past he prefers leadoff. He may thrive there.
BTW, he's up right now with 2 on.

I was more of a prototypical lead off guy in HS like you’re thinking of. I hardly ever struck out, I had the highest batting avg on the team, and I was also the fastest guy on the team. Crews has way more power than I ever had. Since I was just trying to get on base any way I could, I always took pitches until the pitcher threw a strike. If I had Crews’ power, I would not have taken pitches like that. So long as he stays aggressive so as to not compromise the number of healthy cuts he gets each game, I like him at the lead off spot.

So he can more easily homer in the first and second inning.
