Neither of your examples is about LSU. Kiffin is a national story for obvious reasons. It would be covered the same if he had left Ole Miss for Florida, Penn State, or anywhere else.
Will Wade was caught on a federal wiretap talking about paying players by name. That story is cat nip for college writers. It has nothing to do with LSU. The fact that LSU fired Wade when some other schools may not have done so is LSU's prerogative, not the media's.
Everyone in college football hates Brian Kelly, now including everyone in Baton Rouge. He would have been hated the same way had he left Notre Dame for Florida.
The 2019 football season was a wire-to-wire PR video for LSU football on ESPN and every other media outlet. That is because we dominated. We've been mediocre since, and so the personalities (good or bad) of our coaches have been the story instead of bad football.

How old are you? We have said that ESPN hates LSU for at least 20 years, possibly longer.
I’m sure some people over there creamed their pants over Les the “retard coach,” that they grudgingly twisted when his batshit crazy moves typically worked into giving him the nickname “the Mad Hatter.”

Finebum is shite. Frick em all .

I asked ChatGPT this question just for fun. It said and I quote.
ESPN doesn't actually hate Lsu.
LSU fans are extremely online.
Tigerdroppings, X, and Lsu fan culture amplify any slight. A comment from the talking heads quickly becomes "why does ESPN hate us?"
Is tigerdroppings really that predictable that ai even explains it like that? Pretty funny it's mentioned specifically. Haha

LSU was the sixth most-watched college football team in 2025, so you would think ESPN would like LSU because it draws viewers (and online clicks). FYI, for all of the complaining other teams do about the amount of night games that LSU gets, here’s one reason why:
1. Alabama, 8.49 million
2. Texas, 7.55 million
3. Georgia, 7.48 million
4. Ohio State, 6.57 million
5. Oklahoma, 6.47 million
6. LSU, 6.42 million
7. Tennessee, 6.21 million
8. Auburn, 5.25 million
9. Michigan, 5.08 million
10. Texas A&M, 4.99 million

They actually love LSU....always major content producers!

Because espn thrives on building feel good sport stories such as Lane finding himself at OM and building a championship program at a peon school. We ruined that 30 for 30 storyline, so LSU and Lane are the bad guys that viewers need to tune in every Saturday to hate watch in hopes that we fail.

Because they can’t just hate on ND. ESPN’s 2 week non-stop campaign to exclude to exclude ND and the chair quoting ESPN’s talking points as justification is next level after using ND to promote the show for prior 4 weeks. Worse than actually being left out which’s there was an argument for.

ESPN hates Tiger Fans, the way we behave, the arrogance, the fickleness, Neck, the drunkenness.
