re: Why does anyone care who starts as LSU quarterback?

Given inferior play calling, which should be expected, we KNOW Harris cannot produce, and we have some valid basis to predict Etling can produce, so it definitely matters.
I am not advocating Harris be the starter by any means, I am saying that it won't make any difference as long as that is the only change.

Frankly, I don't care who starts.
I'm just tired of seeing our program perform like a ship lost at sea without a sail.
Even if Etling is our guy, our O Line can't even block a telephone number. We fix one thing, then three other things break. It's continually 1 step forward and three steps back.

again...irrelevant
so if he looks like crap against an sec defense is it still irrelevant? you know we play in the sec and not fcs right?

The playbook did look different once Etling came in.....why?
Because the QB running the offense calmly and effectively executed the plays called (for a while at least). There seems to be the misconception that there's something inherently wrong with the scheme. There isn't.
But when you don't have a QB who can run it effectively, it breaks down. Pro-style offenses are heavily contingent upon QB play.
Now, if you want to be critical of QB development/recruiting of dual-threat guys to run pro style offenses, fine. But assuming our offensive woes are schematic is misguided.

Just to be clear...do you think Harris or Etling should be the starter this week?
Not sure if your pumping Harris or think the jury is still out on Etling. Thanks

I think people are giving too much weight to how a guy played for 1 qtr against an FCS school...we will find out if we have a qb against sec competition.
I have heard people on this board say many times that our qbs get better reps in when practicing against our defense than live snaps in a game. I don't agree with it but it seems you may have been of that opinion also...maybe I am getting you mixed up with someone else.

of course they are, but do you blame them?
people are looking for something to latch onto this season and right now it is Etling
I think only an awful person would tell those people that they shouldn't get excited when it is one of the very few things we have had to get excited about so far

The jury is still out on Etling and I think he should get the node on Saturday.
However, I seriously doubt he can be any more effective in this offense than any other quarterback on the roster if all else stays the same.

Because that position is one of the most important on the field...
Posted on 9/12/16 at 11:56 am to Salmon
I want him to be the guy but some fans will expect him to perform like the 2nd qtr from here on out. With such a small sample size it is ridiculous to think that. I think CLM and company are retarded when it comes to coaching but even I think they can pick the best qb to lead the team...and they determined that to be BH

I agree, but when the HC and OC do not create a scheme or at least wrinkles to get the most out of the attributes of the QB position, what does it matter which guy is handing the ball off.

I agree to a point...Cam should be able to utilize the offensive scheme that he is supposed to be an expert in to craft a plan that works for the skill set of a supposed starter in the SEC.
It can not be that Mettenberger is the only guy that has ever been on the roster that can get what Cam is dishing out.

I saw a few passes completed (just a few!) and LSU athletes making several plays that had nothing to do with him.
Did you not notice that the entire team was a step faster with Etling? It's all about confidence, confidence that the offense is capable of moving the football. That was totally lacking with Harris.

And you think you will get this based on what?
Based on their play on the field..wtf else? There was a well executed screen play with Guice on 3rd down where Etling had to side arm it to him...that would have never happened with Harris in the game. "LSU athletes" and this offense is many times better with Etling at QB, you're blind if you can't see that.
