Why do we take so many strikes down the pipe.

The strategy of getting the opposing pitchers pitch count up —-causes us to ALWAYS get behind in the count—
We are not a great 2 strike hitting team.
We need to be thinking DEAD RED on every first pitch. Get the pitcher out of there by ripping fast balls— I don’t like being forced to defend with 2 strikes— then swing at junk in the dirt. JMHO

Then you would prefer the Mainieri strategy. No one else seemed to love that

Patience alone has won us about 6 games where we got walks and get pitchers out of the game early. What a terrible take.

I mean it’s not like they know it’s going to be a fastball right down the pipe. Sometimes you’re thinking a breaking ball, and they throw a fastball in and surprise you. Causes you to freeze up. Not trying to come up with excuses for not swinging, but a lot of times, it’s just a part of the game. It’s a game built on failure, and only being right 20-30% of the time when you’re batting.

I think strategy should be adjusted throughout the year. The book is out that we take the first pitch more often than not. Start smoking that first pitch fastball down the pipe and opposing teams will quit doing that. When they stop doing it then adjust again. It should be a constant chess match but I feel like we just keep taking pitches that should turn into line drives then, as said before, have to defend with 2 strikes.

Do you think we struck out less last year?
Posted on 4/3/22 at 11:09 am to Kajuncook
Just for comparison. With your approach last year we struck out 8.5 times per game. This year we are at 7.7 per game.
Good job OP.

Hitters could do a better job against the shift. Choke up and hit to the opposite field.

It’s whatever not working just say the opposite. Why do we swing at the first strike? Why do we not and take it down the middle?

I've always ALWAYS said I am fine with MLB players doing this. They are talented, professional hitters that have a great eye for the ball and know what they're doing.
Large majority of college players don't have that, so I agree. You will most definitely get a fastball right down the middle the first pitch or the first two pitches. You'll fall behind 0-2, and you'll be fricked, because you'll then swing at breaking balls in the dirt to strike out.
I agree I don't care about working the pitch count by watching the first 2 pitches. You'll end up striking out a pitch or two after that anyway, so you're not working the count. What's the point?

Correct!!! They aren’t professionals!!!

Because hitting is Fn hard and if you are looking for one pitch and they throw another one it happens.

LSU is striking out less and walking more this year. Also, scoring more runs per game. Next time do a little research before posting your asinine thoughts.

Baseball is a game of analytics.Lot of pitchers in college have a fastball an off speed.Every scenario is different. For example if they walk a batter I can pretty much guarantee you the next batter is going to see a fastball where it’s located who knows but you should be sitting fastball

Because they like taking pipe!!

Against the starter, fine. Take pitches. Once we get into the bullpen you have to start swinging at those first pitch fastballs. But like everything else, it’s situational.
