May have to do with a cigar.
I think he scored a very late TD against LSU in 2000 when it was kneel down time. (Then the Cigar)

I kinda like him. Met him in April and he was very congenial and complimentary of the LSU team and their accomplishment. He viewed it as a positive for the SEC overall.
The cigar thing is kinda cool to me. It helped make the rivalry all the more storied and enriched.

When ever I think of Tubberville I think of the talent he gets and then what he does with that talent. He doesn't get crappy talent, but he doesn't get "Crimson Tide" talent either. Florida would have a significant edge in talent over Auburn and Urban is considered by many a top 3 coach in America, so how come Tubbs keeps taking it to them? Put him at Texas, LSU, USC, Florida, or OSU and you are looking at a scary team to deal with IMO.

his recruiting classes have been average.maybe its because he plays us so well with what he has.

The cigar thing was 10 years ago. I don't really give a crap about that anymore. The true reason that we still act like it bothers us is that it is fun to go up against a coach that we perceive to be a villian. Remember Spurrier in the 90's? That is why it will be fun to boo Saban this year. We have a reason to dislike him beyond the fact that he is the coach of the opposition. This is why we try to keep Tuberville as a villian, and keep bringing up the cigar. I think that the excitement of the LSU-Auburn games on the field have been enough to not have to bring up the cigar every time we talk about them.

I think deep down inside, Tubby wants to be LSU's coach.

I wasn't present for the cigar game, although we have all heard plenty about it. However, I was at the band/kicker game, sitting in the 2nd row of the south end zone middle right behind the goal post. Although I got a real "kick" out of watching our tuba players clack the AU kickers, I remember the anger we all felt at them and their coach for allowing this to happen.
And wasn't this the "late" AU/LSU game that had to be postponed till the end of the season because of 9/11? Can't remember if the kicker. (We do always play AU in Tiger Stadium in odd numbered years, right?) If my memory is correct and this was the late game, Tubs should be even more ashamed of himself.
Having said all that, I do respect the man as an X's and O's coach. Look forward to bettering him this year!

I like Tubby and if Les were to go to the NFL, Tubbs would be the first one I would offer. I would love to see him as LSU's DC/Assistant HC and in charge of scouting and player development.

He has never done anything but show disrespect for LSU. All of the previous messages list the incidents to prove it.
Tubby
AU

Where is AuburnCPA? I'd figure he would pop in right about now. I guess he went to bed.

Don't hate him at all. The best big game coach in the country. Aside from his 2003 team, all his other teams have been pretty competitive vs LSU.
Biggest knock on him is that he can't get his team up for the less important games and they always play down to the competition.
That's what makes Les such a good coach - his teams almost always come ready to play.
