Why didn't Miles and Cam see Etling was better?

Brandon Harris has physical gifts that can't be taught, but Etling obviously has the intangibles that make a good QB. He sees the field so much better and has much more pocket presence. He also is much more accurate and has better touch. Why did it take Miles and co. til the second game to see this? Are they just that bad at evaluation of their players?

Why does everyone keep asking this?

Some players are practice studs and some are gamers. I'd guess that Harris is a practice All-American and Etling is a gamer. Hard to tell that in practice, got to see live action to reveal it.

But still, you'd think it would be clear, even in practice, that Etling is better.

The second I saw Etling make that shovel pass under pressure I knew he was a gamer. The dude just keeps a cool head. That's all we need if this defense keeps improving.

Maybe BH is better at practice when no pressure is on him and just shits his pants in the actual game situations. Maybe DE just knows how to handle pressure better and stats focused on the task at hand.

I really have no idea either. I was wondering the same thing.

Because if you gave a guy with ability like Harris, the sky is the limit if it clicks. You stick sith him as long as you think there is a chance the lights come on

It really isn't another gotcha moment. It is pretty easy to see

It's not always that easy. See Rohan Davies rise.

There's no way the team would have been behind Etling if he started at Wisconsin. Harris had to be allowed to fail on the field. As it is you saw many players pouting after he was pulled in the JSU game

He wasn't eligible to play last year. There were reports that he injured his back the week before the Wisconsin game. I don't know if he was physically able to play that game. And perhaps the coaching staff felt Harris deserved a chance to redeem himself after the Wisconsin game. LSU only had the ball for one minute or so in the first quarter of the JSU game. Ethling came out for the first possession of the second quarter. Seems to me they didn't wait too long to put him in.

Umm. Duh? Have you seen the QB position at LSU since Miles?

Brandon harris' issues are 100% mental. You see it in how he can't complete a 5 yard pass. Instead he throws the ball 5 yards over the receiver's head. He has a case of the yips when the pressure is on.

It's still possible that one looked significantly better in practice.. so there may have been no way for them to know until the need to thrust him into a live game.

They've had this issue before.

They use to say Jennings looked great in practice.. but it didn't translate onto the field.. who knows the reasons.. maybe they call the right plays for them..

We've heard where LSU practices certain formations but never even use them in game situations..

Harris has nfl arm talent and telling doesn't. Miles wanted Harris to put it all together because of his talent and that would make LSU unstoppable but telling is the game manger we need over potential

I can see how BH skill set is more appealing, but how coaches couldn't tell who was the better leader and who had the better attitude is disturbing.

Talent alone never makes a QB. The "it" factor is more important. A good QB must have solid leadership ability, be cerebral, and be mentally quick.

Etling took over three series into the second game in which he was eligible to play, and will likely continue to be the starter. That's a pretty quick hook considering Harris' time in the program.

If harris could do the basics he would be an all american. Not all that confusing why they would stick with him if he looked great in practice
