re: Why did we immediately go to 3 wide sets with Etling? Did Cam Take Over?

Was this Cam taking the reigns away from Miles in the 2nd quarter? Did Miles take them back in the 2nd half? Did we something of a coaching mutiny take place on Saturday night that hasn't been reported?
interesting theory. pretty much in line with today's tendency to embrace conspiracy's.
it does make sense that the man calling the plays would call plays that he knows the QB can execute tho and stay away from those that the QB can't execute. of course, our offense hasn't made sense in a while. (at least our passing offense)

Yes and at halftime Les said, " That's enough let's run the clock out and attempt some low percentage passes".
I firmly believe Etling is trying to bolster Dupre's confidence and get him involved more in the offense; we will need him down the road.
that Etling boy seems to want to take charge; I like that out of a QB

They should be more worried about getting as many receivers involved in a game they were dominating by continuing what was working. That had Miles stamp all over it.
Posted on 9/13/16 at 11:48 am to TigerFanNKaty
Didn't they have the 3rd string qb throwing routes in the 4th quarter?
Posted on 9/13/16 at 11:55 am to PaperTiger
He threw one to quick throw to the far hash at or behind the line of scrimmage. Really? That is not what we are talking about here. They went to running on first and second down with I formation sets. After the turnovers how many passes did we attempt? How many times did we line in two wide sets in the second half? Miles went back into his shell.

I really wasnt watching the end of the game. Just thought I saw them thr ow a pass.
So if Harris can't throw, you want Etling on the field in a game already won just to get reps? I cant say i agree. What about an unnecessary injury? He was cramping already right?

Then again, they may have simplified the offense so much for Brandon that they both created the conditions where he couldn't succeed (vicious circle type thing

Agreed. It makes you wonder if BH has trouble grasping the offense.
I just want to reiterate how stupid this comment truly is. Do you think they practice a different offense with Etling and the 2nd string guy? Do you think they ask Etling to come in and run plays that the starters have never seen before? They're not making play calls that are specifically for Etling at this point. That may come in time, but we haven't seen any of that.

Being inaccurate =/= Harris is dumb or cannot understand the playbook, but don't let that get in the way of a good insult.

the deep routes may have been designed to keep Jax honest. one of them may have simply been Etling audibling out of CC's play because he saw single coverage on Dupre'.

Les froze up and didn't know what to do when he saw Etling going thru his progressions. So Cam had to wing it

I think that play was run with only two wide outs. I'd have to go back and look of course, but I don't think he had another option other that Travin or Dupree.

I think this is part of what Les/Cam see from BH in live action that leads Les to say things like "BH is not executing it in the game" like he does in practice (paraphrasing). He tenses up. He zeroes in on WRs. He doesn't survey the field walking up to the line. And you can bet a decent DC on the other side can see this in film and be ready to eat him alive. The result is very, very, very tight throwing windows for underneath and intermediate stuff.
I believe this also. I think BH is probably really good and confident in practive and then has anxiety issues in games. I believe this because I observed, starting with his first start at Auburn 2 years ago he went from a great QB against NM and MSU to an absolute mess. he had some games last year when he was cool and calm (notably Florida) but has started this year freaking out for some reason.
it may be fear but I don't think so; anxiety is all about the nerves. but i'm no doctor.
imo, if LSU coaches can find a way to calm Brandon Harris down he still has a chance to excel at QB.

The INT was just two routes:

Dead on, IMO.
Harris is an all star practice. Come game time, defense is coming in after him and he's scared to death. Proven in the panicking game clinching INT @ Wisconsin.

would be nice if we utilized the twins formation tightends to run routes instead of max protection. Wisconsin and Arkansas gashed the frick out of us with their tightends out of the twins and double tightend sets.

I thought so because I remember being pissed they were going away from what they did in quarter number two. Then Les that stubborn ole mule, has the nerve to say Etling should have hit is check down.
There wasn't one. What freaking game was he watching? Just goes to show the man has no clue.
Posted on 9/13/16 at 12:25 pm to TigerFanNKaty
I mean the decision to throw to Dupre was the right one - he was open - but that ball has to be either out of the back of the end zone or more to the center of the U to give Dupre a chance. A relatively low and under thrown ball there is going to be an INT more times than not.

Truthfully the sets and what was ran out of those sets differed under each QB. Brandon had more isolation routes which were intended to win one on one matchups to the sidelines with Dupree. Problem is Dupree gets NO seperation. Danny got rub routes off of two and three receiver routes. Rub route scored the first touchdown and a nice pass to Chark.
Everyone is on the Etling train but I am not one. I saw the 2nd quarter momentum start with Darrell Williams being productive. Then Guice got going. It was more those two guys and the rub routes out of spread that led to success. When Etling threw iso routes...to Dupree again, we saw him throw an interception. Again play calling and runningback production.
If anyone on this board believes that Harris or Etling are answers to our offensive struggles then you are beyond stupid and you shouldnt talk about Les being dumb because you are just as dumb.
Saturday will bring everyone back to reality because apparently the second half of this game didnt do that. State has a front four that will challenge our offensive line. We wont be able to throw to save our lives. Unless 7,24,or 5 have a dominant game this game will be the nail in the coffin. Downvote if you must but make sure you return to this post to eat crow by Sunday morning.
