You remember you said you've never seen it enforced that way?
No, I don't remember saying that actually.

Hope you learned something today

Ok so we are all clear on this, you are saying the rule for starting the ball on the snap only applies is a ten second runoff is declined?
Where is the NCAA rules book online? Can someone post a link?
Did we ever determine if Auburn got 5 downs in the first half btw?
For once bad officiating went in our favor but doesn't happen often.

The links are older, but I'm not aware of there being any rule changes in that regard since the latest link. And at the moment, ain't no way I can go through the entire NCAA rulebook but when I get home if I got some time I might try to take a look.

No, I'm not talking about that at all. I'm talking about the clock not stopping when Dural went out of bounds, and stating it's because basically it was ruled that his forward progress had been stopped.

I tried copying some of the phrases you had, no luck. Tried the looking at the rule numbers by Rule, Section, Article; also no luck. I'm sure it's still in there, but just like college text books, they changed just enough to make you need the new one.

Rule 4, Section 1, Article 3:
If the ball becomes dead due to a runners forward progress being stopped then it's the exact same as the runner being tackled in bounds.
quote:
Ball Declared Dead ARTICLE 3. A live ball becomes dead and an official shall sound his whistle or declare it dead: a. When it goes out of bounds other than a kick that scores a field goal after touching the uprights or crossbar; when a ball carrier is out of bounds; or when a ball carrier is so held that his forward progress is stopped. When in question, the ball is dead (A.R. 4-2-1-II).
If the ball becomes dead due to a runners forward progress being stopped then it's the exact same as the runner being tackled in bounds.

I'm saying that, yes.

No, they didn't. ESPN marked a 1st down on what was 3rd and 1.

Check FR-57 and FR-49.

because the rule is the clock stops when the referee signals the play is over, not when the WR is down. There's always a slight delay for that to occur. Again, this happens all the time.
In that case, it should have been zero. There's been a lot of complaining about the "homer scorekeeper", but he definitely stopped it at :01 before the official signaled.
Second question: is clock status reviewable? i.e. could they rule that the ref waited too long to officially signal the play over?

You and UP To Par are correct, this is directly addressed on page FR-57.

Apparently any egregious clock issues are reviewable. Remember the Kick-6 getting a second put back on the clock?

Yeah, so that makes me think the 1st 4th down play should have been reviewed. It was WAY after he was down that the official signaled the play dead.

Instead of everyone quoting the same rules over and over again could we get a Gif of the play in the thread?

I'm talking about a different play.
