quote:For all we know Mainieri may have counter offered. But I know Rooney and Goodwin were also personal friends having coached together for years under Mainieri at Notre Dame. There were a lot of personal dynamics going on.
I mean that more in the sense that we let him walk to UCF without upping his current offer here from what I can gather.
Now if you ask me would I prefer Goodwin over Sanchez as hitting coach, I'd say yeah. Let's get him here. But I also don't think Goodwin is the best choice out there for a college hitting coach.
ETA: I'm also not sure if Goodwin is a good recruiter. Sanchez is a very good recruiter based on the comments the other coaches, including Alan Dunn, have said to me. That's not based on who comes to LSU but on their comments regarding Sanchez's contacts with JC and high school coaches across the country.
I know when Goodwin was at LSU I spoke to him a few times at CC meetings and he was not very outgoing.....more of a Smoke Laval type personality one-on-one.

Still doesn't mean that LSU isn't suffering from Javi's lack of experience.
2009 - We know how that season was.
2010 - Bad season all around. First year with the new bats, coming off a title year, lost a lot of guys, etc. Can't seem to find team stats/leaders, can anyone help me there?
2011 - Hit .303 as a team, 3rd in the SEC; 4th in the SEC in every other major category; 2nd fewest strikeouts in the SEC (but near the bottom in plate appearance)
2012 - 4th in the SEC in BA and OBP; 1st in runs and RBI; 3rd in total bases
2013 - Phenomenal hitting year in every category.
Yes, that isn't exactly pristine. But far from horrible.

What are your inside sources? I'm sure you have them.

This was actually the last year with the old bats. We could hit fine, but our pitching sucked balls.

Not whining about it, just asking why he was let go?
He wasn't let go.

Yeah, basically the only year we were below avg with the bats, is the beginning of this year. Yet javi sucks.

If he was a bit older and didn't have a close personal relationship with or hadn't played for Mainieri (NEPOTISM, BBQ BOYS, BLAH BLAH), I'm convinced 99% of the people calling for his head wouldn't be doing so. Oh well.
