I wanted to get a win over a ranked team as well, anything that can bump us into the top 10 to finish the season.

They know Daniels isn't going to play so they lowered LSU bowl and opponent.

I would rather cut my entire yard with a pair of scissors than watch boring arse Iowa play anybody. I am thrilled LSU isn’t playing Iowa. Wisconsin is still a stale matchup but Iowa would have been the most BORING matchup.
Idk. I think there's some intrigue in LSU vs Iowa. All year long, Iowa has made a name for itself as having an elite defense, but that's been mainly against horrible, boring Big 10 offenses. So it would be interesting to see them really tested against the best offense in the country. Iowa has also had a notoriously bad offense this year. So that match-up vs LSU's notoriously bad defense would be interesting.

If JD isn't playing this is the best bowl for us. Not sure I would want Nuss's first start to be against Iowa's defense. This gives him a game against a traditionally good power 5 team but not so good a defense this year. In fact probably gives JD a good opportunity not to play as he wouldn't feel the need to play and help LSU win. It would be over by halftime if he played.

The most upsetting is the perfect matchup was lost.

best offense vs best defense. at least it would have been somewhat interesting.

And one of the worst offenses against one of the worst defenses.

That would have been one of the most interesting Over/Unders of the bowl season. It would pit LSU always hitting the Over against Iowa always going Under. A real unmovable object vs unstoppable force situation.

Not if they put Iowa in the Reliaquest.

That’s not how things work. The Citrus Bowl gets to pick their teams before the Reliaquest. They aren’t going to let a preferred team go to the Reliaquest just so LSU can have a better opponent.

It’s possible playing ND could have provided that kind of bump, but Iowa would not have. LSU would move ahead of Missouri and Penn St if those teams lose, regardless of LSU’s opponent. Ole Miss is less certain given the head-to-head, but beating Iowa really wouldn’t move the needle. LSU wouldn’t jump any team ahead of them that wins their bowl because they’re all playing higher ranked opponents than any possible opponent for LSU. That leaves Oklahoma-Arizona as the only unknown. An Oklahoma loss would open the door to finish #10, but Arizona might jump LSU with the win. I think that’s where playing ND would have given LSU more of a chance. Again, I don’t think Iowa would have made a difference.
