More like why could we not just keep DThomas and not lose him to the Ducks? Chip kellys and GC offense is about the same thing

Right. And we also can underestimate how much he suffers from playing in a pitiful offense under a pitiful offensive coordinator.

He never strictly worked with the QB's.
didn't say that he did, but wasn't the vast majority of that 1st spring (his early enrollee spring) spent as a QB with just a little of the other 2 positions sprinkled in?
anyway, I don't think they completely fricked him up, he caught 30 balls in a shitty passing game, 45-50+ with a competent QB doesn't seem far-fetched. throw in a few carries a game and some return duties, and he can still be a really productive player for us before he leaves.

I agree with those who have said Crowton is responsible for this--one of his many shortcomings over the last three seasons. More substandard player evaluation & more poor utilization of personnel. It is the responsibility of coaches to put the athletes in positions so that they & in turn, the team, can have the most success. He did not do so here-- why not atleast give RS a chance--he was a highly recruited athletic QB.

No one seems to believe the official story...that he chose to move to WR.
If he wants a chance at being a 1st day draft pick, he had to move to WR. I don't see how it's that hard to believe.

Guess some of the expert analysts are retarded too. I heard one the other day say how RS's skills and body just are not really suited for the college game.

Thomas is VERY good with QUICK READS and decisions. He is an extremely fast at reading the D, processing it and making the second or third option. Saw on ESPN today that they have about 70 is plays BUT there are multiple options off of each. He is good at understanding what options are there and making that decision in a split second. that guy will win the Heisman if he continues to develop.

redshirted him and played him sparingly this year. He's not good enough to put Thomas--or anybody else in that offense--on the bench. I think we need to lower our expectations of Shepard a bit. It's not because Crowton sucks or is stupid--it's because he was overrated coming out of high school. Not that he wasn't great, just that his skills don't translate as easily into the college game as most of the recruiting "experts" believed. He can still have a very good career, but he just doesn't have the talent to be an All American.
He has 2 years left, btw. Physically he's in another world than he was last season and if he continues to make strides in the gym

This say that he couldn't beat out two bad quaterbacks, which implies he was worse at quaterback.

he's too small to play zone read qb in the sec consistantly.
the only spread (zone read) qbs that work in the sec are big physical guys like tebow and cam, who can pick up 5 yards a carry, run someone over, and get 8. then the speed from the rb turning the edge makes the offense.
and i thought jj did a really good job running the zone read up until the arkansas game, when the offensive line just couldn't keep their front 3 and 4 guys off him.

Funny how Thomas developed those habits playing under Chip Kelly. And Les didn't want him to play QB either...

You are right, Shepard is too small to be a full time starter in the SEC. But that doesn't mean make him a non-factor. Give him a few snaps at QB, run the wildcat with him, have him throw a few passes. If Houston Nutt can teach Darren Mcfadden to throw a pass, I'm sure Crowton can teach Shepard, right?

/thread.....when the frick will everyone understand this? Crowton brings nothing to the table in terms of development. I have seen it personally since 2005.

im not sure why you would, your qb ran the zone read very effectively.
shep translated into college as a wr. (in the sec). it's up to him to do the work to be able to catch the football when thrown to him. i'm sure he'll do that this summer. and hopefully a qb will be here that can see him running open, and hit him downfield.
i wouldnt mind seeing a few more go routes. that is my only problem with the offense.

Shepard was very successfull at running the zone read. All 3 times it was run that one game last year (against Georgia)

Maybe so, but it just seems we could have more than one play (that is telegraphed) designed for him in this offense.

he's just too small to play QB in the SEC. Fact.
