The biggest difference between LSU and Alabama is the OL. Across the board at all other positions I think the teams are evenly matched, but its the OL where Bama has a clear edge. AJ is a good QB made better by having all day to throw. Even LSUs QBs could execute Studs simplistic predictable scheme effectively if they had the protection AJ has. A real OC would help, but LSUs biggest problem is OL play.

I agree. Miles is supposed to be an OL coach, but other than last year minus the BCSCG our line play has been spotty and inconsistent; just like our head coach.
The thing I want to point out is also the absence of diversity on offense.
Last night for Bama I saw AJ McCarron play action pass, 3 step, 7 step drops, shotgun, rollout, RB screen, and utilize his TE effectively. The other thing about the Bama offense is they can spread a defense out and run Eddie Lacy up the gut.
All I ever see from Miles is two TEs and a FB along with 2 WRs out on a route. Obviously, when you wait for your WRs to separate, you expect your OL to block longer -something they don't do on a consistent basis. And Mett being inaccurate or our WRs dropping passes isn't helping.

Bama started the same 5 guys for every game. We started 8 different guys in several different formations. We also lost one starter mid game.

And iirc they only have a 1st round guard a multi all American tackle playin center and two #1 tackle recruits playing tackle.

Well you are on point, if we are just talking this year. But I have seen nothing but the same philosophy for the last few years. why was this the case last year? QBs (JJ, JL)??

The Starters to Begin the Season
1) Our LT and best offensive lineman, not to mention protector of our QB's blind side, went down early in the season.
2) Our RT decided to leave the team midseason for personal reasons.
3) Our RG goes down with a lingering concussion, which held him out a good part of the year.
4) Our C was bothered by nagging injuries throughout the season, but played through the majority of them.

The Replacements
1) We tried a few guys at LT, before 6th year Dworaczyk (a guy that started for 2 years on the inside and was coming back from a season ending knee injury in 2011) gets the nod. Definitely struggled at times handling more athletic guys on the outside.
2) At RT, we settled for a true freshman, who showed signs of promise at times, but whose inexperience and lack of strength (due to age, mainly) also evidenced.
3) At RG, a RS-Freshman who wound up developing into one of our best run blockers, but at times, struggled a bit.
4) At C, a RS-Sophomore who rejoined the team after leaving a gray shirt option for Kentucky, and transferring back here as a walk-on. Didn't get as many snaps as the other replacements, but was decent in place of Lonergran.

Here is what I want you to do Granddad. Respectfully. Go to your nightstand and find your preseason football magazine with the depth chart. Look at the super-experienced starting OL . Then look at the starting OL of the bowl game. Then think "injuries" and "quit the team". And you will understand the reality of our situation.

i agree 100% and have supported this fact the whole season. but what was the reason last year? what was the reason against north texas? i think our OL has more than inexperience to overcome. i'm really getting tired of failure on third and short. line up in the I and handoff 7 yds deep or toss sweep. and when the D stacks the box and pretty much ignores a pass play EVERY TIME and we keep doing the same thing even if it rarely works (against the good teams) something is amiss. since 2007 our offense has been extremely inconsistent in their results and we don't seem able to develop a good pass blocking OL or an accurate passing qb. it's frustrating and now that the season is over i'm dumping. hell, what's gonna be the excuse next year? we lose josh D and i think i read where faulk is gone. and we know we lose our center so here we go again; no experience on our OL and a qb with a cannon for an arm but often can't hit the broad side of a barn.

If you go back and look at my posts concerning this matter, I've beat the same drum. If you can't do simple things well, how in the hell are you going to do sophisticated things well. Our coahing staff just doesn't pay attention to detail. We consistantly have too many penalties, missed assignments, overthrown passes, missed blocks, and no accountability.
