Why do you get awarded first base after four balls?? Bc it’s the rules.

Would depend on the score in the game but I get your point. In football I've always wondered why a runner fights to get from the 11 or 12 yard line down to the nine or ten yard line. Go down just outside the ten yard and you have possibly eight more downs to score instead of four.
