I'll humor you since you think your opinion matters.
Bo has never fielded a bad defense anywhere as a DC. He was Co-DC with Veneables at OU back in 2003.
LSU has only had a defense ranked as high as Bo's LSU teams once since 2007. That was in 2011.
If you think Pelini is some crusty old has been, then how is a guy who has been around so long like Veneables the best in the business? Veneables clearly has adapted. It's pure ignorance to think Bo cannot or has not.
Bo was fired from Nebraska for PC BS, they've never gotten back to where Bo had them. He also was content at Youngstown because he was collecting fat checks from Nebraska up until last year.
Now LSU will get a DC who will be here 5-8 years, as opposed to a young super star who doesn't want to recruit, and bolts in 2 years leaving us to rebuild all over again breaking continuity.
I think O wants a physical aggressive defensive scheme and mindset. Why wouldnt he, especially with the secondary that LSU can recruit annually?
Aranda is an excellent DC, I take nothing away from his contributions to bringing LSU a Title.
But going with an emotional, demonstrative, "Nick Saban type" of coach for the defense to replace the cerebral Aranda makes sense to me.
Add in Pelini is as good a recruiter, maybe a better DC overall, O likes him and the top players want to be in an attacking scheme....
WackyChris, who's your pick?

Bo Pellini would be a great DC here. Wouldn’t be worried about that at all, and I would love the hire. Can someone fill me in on this though? How was his recruting while at LSU and in general? I’m too young to remember his recruiting at LSU, and just in general is he considered a good recruiter as well?

Youngstown State football coach Bo Pelini is set to make more money in his second contract with the Penguins. Pelini's contract runs through the 2021 season, expires on Feb. 28, 2022 and has a base salary of $200,538. It's a drop from his previous deal's mark of $213,894, but he can make more money through bonuses.
The $2.5M per year Nebraska payout ends next month. Bo will be taking a massive pay cut if he passes up this opportunity.

What does this mean for Faux Pelini?

You’re going to compare a season where Aranda had 7 starters injured for 3/4 of the year, and three more rotation players left the team to a season where Pelini had 2 top 5 NFL draft picks and one injury that caused zero missed games? Not to mention you’re comparing Arandas worst statistical season to one of Pelinis best or the fact that once healthy Arandas D had a month and a half run that no other D in the country can match. Wow, you’re not an Aranda hater are you?

Why has Youngstown State fallen off the map, when the dominated under Tressel, who is now the University’s President I think?

If anyone could show his defenses adapting and doing well against spread teams at Nebraska I'd love to see the evidence. The only thing I see is statistically they declined after he did a great job with them the first 2-3 years there. His last season they were terrible 50+ in every category and 80+ in some. He also got blown out in a title game by 70+ against a spread team.
All I remember him doing here is mismatching our safeties in the nickel/dime slots which is why he struggled against spread teams. They exploited this weakness all the time. You mention old DCs adapt all the time and this is true but also, they have some stubborn frickers who do not adapt which is why they end up in Bo's current position or on their unemployed arse. It's a legit concern to wonder if he's capable of a modern scheme. I genuinely don't know I'm just going by what I saw here and looking at his defenses statistically at Nebraska since I hardly watched him while he was there.
Just because you were great 13 years ago doesn't automatically mean you're good now. The game passes coaches up all the time. Don't know if that happened here but you can at least wonder?

Only reason Rant fans like him is because they don’t know any coach’s name who didn’t coach at LSU in the past or against LSU the past season in a big game. They live in a bubble here, when they all wanted Aranda fired mid season the two replacements most commonly mentioned were Kevin Steele and Burrows dad lmao.

Yeah, a HC for a team in the middle of nowhere that was actually pretty good until he took over where he's probably going to be fired there soon too.
I don't care what he does as a HC. I'm questioning his defense and scheme. Did he ever man the frick up and stop putting 230lb. safeties in his nickel/dime slots over CBs to be placed on the fastest slots WRs on the team? I remember Coleman and Danny Mcray. If he can recruit Patrick Petersons or Laron Landrys to fulfill that role by all means do so.
Someone needs to put it to rest. If he adapted prove it and stop showing stats from 13 years ago. Nobody is questioning what he did 13 years ago...they want to know if he can do it now. I just want to see the stats against spread teams. That's all I'm questioning with him.

Can anyone please explain to me why Bo Pelini is grabbing so much interest?
LSU was ranked 3rd nationally in overall defense for each of his three years with the Tigers.

17th in points allowed 2007

You are aware he was raised and is from Youngstown Ohio right?

YSU hadn't been to a national championship game in nearly two decades until Bo took them back.
They also play in the toughest league in FCS with NDSU.

I love Aranda actually. And I'm not comparing them head to head. There's this false narrative that offenses only started putting up points recently, and it's not close to true. Auburn homers tried using it as an excuse to have Cam over Burrow, and the numbers just don't show it.
