Why are we still using Growden as the holder?

What is the idea behind this? It is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen, why not just use McMillan or Lindsey Scott like we did with Kragthorpe a couple of years ago? I understand that the coaches may not want the QBs to miss any offensive practice time, but this is one of the reasons we lost to Florida last year. On that botched FG, Caleb Roddy was wide open in the back of the end zone and if we had a backup QB as the holder, it would've probably been a TD and we win the game. I just think its a bad decision to use the punter at holder, especially if there's a botched snap.

Of all the things to be truly concerned about with the season right around the corner, you write four lines on the place-holder?
The season can't get here soon enough

What percentage of NFL teams use their punter as a holder? 90?

Punters can only kick so many balls at practice. When they aren't kicking, they hold.... How many times can you recall a holder botching a snap, evading the 11 guys running right at him, and throwing a pass for a TD? 0.0001% of kicks? Why don't we just worry about giving ourselves the best opportunity to not botch the hold?

Maybe because he does not have to do drills with the rest of the team. He punts and he holds. He and Kicker can plan workout time together.

The roster limits in the NFL are 48, so you need to use a punter as a holder. The college roster is about 90, so you can have a back up QB as holder.

That missed chip shot FG against Florida was costly.

How many times have you seen a backup QB holder complete a pass on a botched snap?

Special teams guys practice together. Punters frequently become de facto holders in snap, place, kick drills.

Kicker, snapper, and holder develop a timing and rhythm together. It is not uncommon for a kicker to suggest a preferred holder. As long as the trio has good timing and mechanics, many coaches are happy to oblige.

This. Most coaches would prefer the backup QBs practicing at QB full time rather than wasting time at practice holding for kicks.

Also think about it like this , if your holder gets fricked up during a collision on a blocked kick ,it's better him, rather than one of your back up QBs .
