His permanent spot should be at slot. And Tolliver and Randle deep. Shep hasn't proven to have the hands yet IMO...

it should help when we get Deangelo back

Because he is a WR

Also,

It is also easier to catch deep balls than short quick passes, so this logic is broken.

He has the moves and the speed to get open deep, that's why. He needs to improve his catching which will happen by the time we hit the meat of the schedule.

it seemed as though the route was not executed properly when they went deep with him and Tolliver. I agree about him getting separation from the dbs. Hmmmm...I guess I was off on the catchability of short pass vs. long ball--but it makes sense. He still needs to work on catches though...I don't think anyone can argue against that...

Also, "Deep" and "Slot" don't refer to the same things.
Unless you are saying you think he should just stand in the slot and not run routes. Which also makes your post stupid.

That deep potential TD that he missed was perfect on both ends. The ball just went right through his hands. Shep had great position on the corner. He is doing just fine going deep...he just has to start catching the ball more consistently.

Why do the Gators send Percy Harvin deep against LSU in 2008?

This. I think the coaches need to get away from quitting on certain plays because they weren't executed properly. You could tell they didn't want to throw the ball much cause of JJ's game against Vandy. When JJ was showing he was on his game, they should have aired it out more often. Shep works too hard to continue to drop passes. Keep feeding him the ball and he will start to make those grabs. It seems like they are letting fear dictate their playcalling rather than what would work best in that given situation. Not every play is going to be executed to perfection, college or pros. Doesn't mean we should throw it out the playbook. I think we missed a huge opportunity to get JJ rolling against MState. Taking Shep out of certain plays will not help this team in the long run.

If we had better blocking for the short passes, shep would dominate. He doesnt have time to slash and cut because as soon as he catches it, hes down. Look what he does when he has blocking.
