Fun fact, the Omaha Storm Chasers, formerly the Omaha Royals, never played in the current park for the CWS. They opened their own new park, the same year, in nearby Papillion, Nebraska.

So no, Roseblatt not being up to AAA "code" is not why the CWS moved away from Rosenblatt. The current park is used for Creighton baseball home games and the College World Series. That's it.

Thanks for clarifying it.

Also the new park is conveniently located right next to a restaurant that the mayor at the time it was built owned or was a part owner.

they should have built it with the same orientation

THIS. The prevailing summer winds now blow in and not out. I also believe Rosenblatt was on something of a ridge making it even more hitter friendly. That place on a hot summer day with the wind coming across the plains was a launching pad.

Whose idiotic decision was it?
The NCAA’s.

They told Omaha that if they wanted to keep the CWS, the stadium would have to be modernized to the satisfaction of the corporate sponsors. Hence we have a new, antiseptic stadium with no character. And it takes Babe Ruth to hit a ball out of there.

The new stadium is solid. Not sure what type of circus stadium you expect.

New stadium is in a great location and has up to date amenities. It is a quality ballpark, no gimmicks.

Want them to put a ferris wheel behind it?

Rosenblatt got Alex Box’d

No, because while very corporate and sterile, the new stadium in Omaha actually is pretty nice and hasn't been outdated from the day it opened like the New Box.

The Travelers were Cardinal AA team for years. During the stadium dispute, a new stadium was built by the Arkansas River in North Little Rock but the Cardinals pulled out anyway after 2000.
Team then was affiliated with the LA Angels until around 2016-17, then switched to Seattle Mariners which is still the parent team

much like most new stadiums are compared to their 20th century counterparts
depends on what part of the 20th Century you’re talking about. Lots of crap built in the 60’s and 70’s.

It’s amazing how much sentimentality people put on a stadium because of certain games that were played there.

They told Omaha that if they wanted to keep the CWS, the stadium would have to be modernized to the satisfaction of the corporate sponsors.

This is the truth. Omaha's 25-year agreement was coming to an end. CWS told the city they would not sign another agreement with Rosenblatt being the stadium - and, Indianapolis was pushing hard for the new agreement. Omaha had to get busy and build a new stadium or we would have lost the CWS, without a doubt. We had no choice in the matter.
While Rosenblatt was nostalgic, it was way outdated with no way to upgrade. There was ONE way in and out of the stadium for the main concourse. Rain delays were a nightmare with everyone trying to take shelter in very small areas. Concessions completely sucked and the seating was tight quarters as well. Don't get me started on the bathrooms. Parking was in the neighborhood's yards - if you could find it. Don't think of leaving early if you were one of the first in - blocked.
Charles Schwab is very nicely done. Lots of room - seating and moving through the concourses. Plenty of entries - quick in and out. Concessions, bathrooms, and everything else modern and up to snuff. The area bars and restaurants also add to the experience. Now, I do miss the tailgating and Dingerville that was available with the Blatt. But overall, it's a move that had to be made and the game experience is better for it.
And, yes, the Omaha minor league team the Storm Chasers have their own stadium in Papillion - west side of Omaha. It's a really nice stadium as well and worth a visit if you get a chance. They refused to move downtown in such a big stadium - for the reason already mentioned. Playing a minor league game in the downtown stadium would be like a ghosttown.

I have rocks from the first baseline form 2009. Security guard reluctantly filled my cup with it for me.
