There are hundreds of expert championship winning football coaches available right here on the Rant.
I'm pretty sure my mom could have left her mic up and "coached" LSU to a 30-point loss to State. Just saying.

Joe Alleva is still employed, so we could reasonably expect to strike out on 1 halfway-decent coach before giving up and signing some dimwit retread for 8yrs/$100m. I'm going to say Houston Nutt.

You say this as an insult, but couldnt all the ranters do what O says he does: Nothing
What makes you think he does nothing?

If Alleva is still hiring, probably the first person to walk past his office.

I say we stick to the Red Bull theme and hire Dana Holgorson.
On a serious note, if Holgorson could lay off the booze and find an elite DC/retain Aranda, I think he we be successful here.

DJ could be good depending on how Maryland does the rest of the year.
Assuming Chip and Stoops are off the board the interview list looks like this:
Mullen
Fuente
Fleck
Durkin
Brohm
Aranda
That's pretty strong.

Alleva needs to be kicked on his arse out the door before any additional "searching" is needed.

Very good question and very few on this board can answer that.
After all, the wish list of Nicko, Jimbo and Hermo didn't pan out (of course along with Gruden, Del Rio and others) so what candidates were left? Not one with the bonafides to man the helm of the good ship "LSU". At least according to our fan base.
Nick was hired in 2000 and I had no idea who the hell he was. Most LSU fans didn't know who he was and were against the hire. Of course now he sits on Mt. Olympus next to Zeus. We were fortunate to have him for 5 years.
Fast forward to present time and many on this board will say we rushed the hire of Orgeron. We ran Les out of town in a very public way which I am sure made a lot of head coaching candidates uneasy.
If you are going to run off an 11 year old head coach, you either take the hit with the current recruiting class or plug in someone quickly. Rather than take the hit with the current recruiting class, our AD chose to hire Coach O quickly and not to expand his head coaching search.
There you go.

Brohm is already turning Purdue in the right direction very quickly, so I'd have him on my list along with others that have been mentioned.
