But are the LSU officials just ok with only with being able to wear a certain jersey if you're a certain race?
and was Mauck's group intending on making it an all-white privelege?

I am white by the way, if that is at all relevant...

Wow guys, I think the comment about having to be white, I think it was all a joke, and of course of it only went to WHITE kids, do you think the school would be ok with it? are you crazy!!!!

they were close friends and didnt think it would be a big deal to pass down their jerseys..i think hester to dickson was a result of his success in the national championship..he wanted to follow in hesters footsteps..so it was just accepted as the white leader on offence..i dont think it will mean anything after this year honestly.

So it wasn't necessarily strictly race?
like it's just a coincidence? (not accusing, just curious)
because there definitely is nothing wrong with just passing on jerseys to a close friend. Especially if they set good examples for the team.

yes...i bet you if Steven Korte were still on the team he would of worn it next year, of course with a medical redshirt for him to be a senior but he is real tight with richard..it didnt start out as strictly race but eventually turned into it

How about we ask LSU alumni or someone actually qualified to answer the question.
Denying someone as a leader soley because of their race is just dumb and ignorant.

My point is that obviously there is confusion on the qualifications of wearing the jersey.
Hasn't anyone heard of researching it?
and why isn't it being done??
Thanks for a rare, educated post. I'm not sure you could research it other than getting into actually talking to the players. I never thought it was a white thing, just an offense thing. I think some of these rantards are making it more of a race thing than it actually is. MAybe i'm wrong and it is. I don't know any of the current players

Yeah, I'm calling bullshite on that one. It's only been in 3 people's hands right? And 2 of those were the unquestioned leaders of the offense. Like one poster said, only hester knows why he picked dickson. I said Scott was the leader of the team last year, and he was. But at the time Hester picked the next to wear it, he might not have been

For all we know Hester could have offered it to Scott and Scott turned it down. Coming off of such a good season in '07 I can see why Hester offered the # to Dickson. As for who Dickson will choose I really have no idea. IMO its up for grabs this year and who ever has the best offensive outing will probably be offered #18.

By the way BRfit I am still waiting to hear from you. I even showed up at your gym last week and the manager said he would let you know I came by.

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong but it started with Mauck. It's meant to be handed down to the player who is the team's leader.

correct. just like #31 is passed down to breaux bridge guys. dominick davis/williams, jessie daniels, and now jon williams.

Im close with ppl on the team and know for a fact there is plenty of black/white diversity..if you cant see that your blind and ignorant

man last year it was pretty apparent that the lines were drawn on lee and JJ and some people joined sides based on race

Matt started this back in the day and yes it is a fact that those guys were good friends and were the white leaders on the team..the black players on the team have to problem with this..they arent ignorant and understand this is not racist..there is plenty of leadership from both races

i think most people forget that the athletes know what is up. they're not blind to reality

Offence?...Offense...Offensive

I'm sure Les is sitting around thinking, "Hey, I know (some black player) wants to wear 18, but y'know guys, it's a white thing."

I wore 18 in high school, love the number, and am proud of the association it has with recent LSU tradition. That being said, I'd love to see JJ switch to it.

JJ has to have it given to him. If he earns it on the field, I think it'll be his next year
