Who was the better LSU nose tackle last year ??

This guy thinks it was the backup and the middle will be MUCH stronger this year without the previous starter.
What freshman DT will push to get heavily involved in the rotation?

It’s going to be a difficult rotation to crack for any freshman, Harold.
Ed Alexander has been anxiously awaiting his turn as the starter at nose tackle and I’d expect a very big season from the junior. Alexander has split snaps with Greg Gilmore the last two seasons, but Alexander has arguably been the better option in the middle of LSU’s defensive line. That was made quite obvious after Alexander was injured in the loss to Mississippi State and when he was in and out of the lineup over the course of the season.
Consider Alexander as the starter, but expect redshirt freshman Tyler Shelvin to see plenty of action, too. Remember Shelvin, one of LSU’s highest-rated signees in the 2017 class, took an academic redshirt last season. He could practice with the team, but was ineligible on Saturdays. That should change this season as the mammoth-sized nose tackle should spell Alexander early and often.
Behind those two, it will be a toss-up between incoming freshmen Chasen Hines and Dominic Livingston. From a physical perspective, both are impressive. Livingston measures at 6-foot-3 and 340 pounds. Hines comes in at 6-2 and 335 pounds. So yeah, two more big bodies are on their way this summer.

Alexander was definitely more dominant than Gilmore, he just lacked the motor to play more than 15-20 snaps a game it seemed

Alexander has more potential and showed he can make the bigger impact. Gilmore was a lot better this past year than previous years and consistent.
We were hurt in the Mississippi state game by not only his absence, but more by Lawrence.

these last few years have been the worst d-lines in a long time at LSU. I think this year we may see the best in a long while

According to Rashad Lawrence at the end of the season, Ed Alexander played like a first rounder in the second half of the season and if he keeps it up this season, he will be a first rounder. Now, I don't know how much of that is exaggeration or not, but nonetheless, I'm looking forward to Ed Alexander and Tyler Shelvin sealing up the middle this upcoming season.

And If he doesn't get drafted in the first round, you'll blame it on Les Miles. Right Space Clownboy?

Alexander has been LSU’s best DL since he arrived on campus. His only issue is stamina.

Agreed he needs to get his weight down. This is the most NT depth we have had basically ever. Definitely since implementing Arandas scheme which relies on a NT taking up double teams.
It’s not a very glorified position in this scheme. The linebackers really reap the fruits of the NT performance in this defense.

Alexander came on very strong at the end of the season.

Watched shelvin in all star game and was impressive, don't know about the other 2.

Gilmore was about 35 lbs light for the position. He did his best but got pushed around some. Alexander, Shelvin, Hines and Livingston are legitimate 3-4 NTs.

I think Gilmore played all year, all out. He surprised me with his development. Alexander could be a beast if he stays healthy.

Thank you, coach O for bringing these three starters Alexander and his two bookends Lawrence and Fehoko to LSU.

Ed has been nothing but beast on the field. Off field is the wavering part. Dude is all animal.
