Anything can happen and any college is glad to accept a commitment if said thing happens to their favor. There's no real negative to taking a commit unless they straight up tell you I'm 100% committed to signing wherever I get drafted, then there's no real point.

Anything can happen and crazier things have happened, even with kids who do get drafted and ultimately dont sign even with almost everyone signing now....you leave the chance out there for yourself.

Also, almost all these commitments happen by the time these kids are juniors in high school, hard to project what they will be in 1+ or 2-3 years from then for the draft.

The reason everyone commits even if they don’t plan on attending college is simple. If a player is committed to LSU but signs out of high school then the team that drafts the player has to put aside money, separate money from signing bonus,in a separate account to cover the players college of his choice. Great MLB rule that was put In place.
