Who starts opposite Sam Montgomery?

Adams was the guy last season, but if Edwards plays like he did towards the end of last season I think he could easily overtake that job. Thoughts?

In a perfect world Edwards learns how to quit chasing ghosts and play his assignment, Mingo has bulked up sufficiently, and they split snaps opposite Sam.

I think Mingo gets the most snaps. He has gotten up to like 245, and he is in awesome shape. He may not start, but i see him in the game ALOT this year.

While it is intergal in stopping the run, I think a guy with the burst of speed and swim move like Mingo, 240-250 is plenty of size for a college DE. Obviously, if he wants to continue to be a 4-3 DE in the pros, he's going to need to gain 20 lbs. But he was a wrecking ball last year, as a redshirt freshman.

THIS
and, most importantly...I want to see his strength bulked up.

Mingo’s biggest asset, and the one least mentioned, is his hand strength. I had a high school coach tell me Mingo had the strongest hands he’d ever seen or shook. Smaller guys like him and Jevon Kearse (was basically the exact same size at Florida) have incredibly strong hands. Reggie White said pass rushing as a DE against an OT was the closest thing to boxing as you could get without stepping inside the ring. Well Mingo is going to be our Manny Paciao in the near future fellas!

Jarvis Green played at 259 his Senior Year. Mingo's level of athleticism and speed is far beyond what Green was at even as a senior.
Having said that, Mingo's a better athlete period, and he's also a 3rd year Sophomore that's been in the program for 2+ offseasons, so it may not be such a huge chasm relatively speaking.

Don't forget about Adams though.....I've heard he's had a good summer, and he's also a guy kind of like mingo, very quick off the edge but he's a little bigger and a senior.
But to be honest it really doesn't matter who starts, this is a deep deep end rotation this year: Montgomery, Adams, mingo, Edwards, aghayere, don't forget about maclin, Allen and rasco

This and how low he plays to the ground makes him a terror on the line. When he came in, i just thought Rolando McClain type, big LB, but i like what they have done with him. IIRC, he is bigger than Dwight Freeney was at his age.

And Ive heard Ego could slide back and forth, situationally. I really wanted to see JC Copeland on the line this year, but hopefully he is our next Quinn Johnson

Adams got some serious hype coming out of fall camp last season, but I wasn't all that impressed with him. Maybe he'll look better in year 2.
Edwards has just always been an interesting prospect, if he's finally motivated he can be a hell of a player.
And yea I expect maclin to get some serious reps as well.

If I'm Chief, I go with Mingo. Use the speed from one side to force the flow to Sam. TFLs should be way up this year.

I think Adams played hurt most of last season.

All any decent OC will do is let Mingo run himself out of position and counter to his side. You need DEs who can contain.

Adams was a pretty solid player last year. He was not as dominant or flashy as some of our other DE's, but he very quietly kept his side locked down
