No, it isnt a strawman. A strawman is brought up in argument when one cannot debate a point.

I opened the floor with the point of debate. Posters say we cant replace Miles with anyone as successful. That is clearly wrong.

Fail again. so sorry

Who, not named Saban, has been as successful as Miles over the past 10 years? And the ones that are on the same level aren't coming here.

Miles is not what Bobby, Joe Pa, or Eddie Robinson was. And then again maybe that's the problem. Those days are over.

People hate change. One decent season every 4 or 5 years. Sure we have beat a lot of good teams. But we've also lost to a lot of bad ones. We seem to be on a decline. Happens to every coach.

Let's talk likelihood. Do you know how to construct a likelihood, mathematically?...or were you meaning just your wild arse opinion?
'

here is a probability

Les has had a better season than this on 8/10 years. There is an 80% probability next year will be better. Likelihood are different they predict past events.

not lets back to your shitty argument. Find 1 coach that meets these criteria so we can make a good comparison with OSU Les.

1. four years coaching the school (so we can compare similar data of a rebuilding process)
2. Power 5 conference (so the level of competition is allegedly equal)
3. school had losing records the 9 out of the last 10 years. (so the scope of the rebuilding job is some what comparable.)

IF there is still 30 guys that meet that criteria than maybe his statistic is useful, but i doubt it.

If there is a guy who was in a similar situation to Les Miles and vastly succeeded him, you have an argument. But comparing Les to a guy like Helfrich at Oregon who took over a team that gone to 4 consecutive BCS games doesn't make sense.

they don't

obviously the possibility is there, but the question is whether or not the risk is worth it

its basically 50/50

so yes, your entire premise of this thread is one big strawman

so again...fail, so sorry

thats not how you calculate conditional probability.

Fail #1.

Not even close. Fail #2.

ok. Let;s assume you're right.

Let's assume there is only 50% chance of getting someone better than Miles.

There are 70 people on that list who did better than Miles before he came to LSU.

Les Miles is nearly 100% likely to lose 2 and most likely to lose 3 games next year.

Damn, I have a 50% chance to do better than a 3 loss season?

sounds awesome!

This is what I told Sammy. You people are so stupid you dont even understand the arguments you proffer actually destroy your own point.

It;s almost like you have no idea what you;re talking about.

I am going to break this down into people that just aren't comparable.

Inherited Significantly Better Program Group

1. Mark Helfrich
2. Chris Peterson
3. Jimbo Fisher
4. Urban Meyer (at Utah, Florida, AND Ohio State)
5. Gus Malzahn
6. David Shaw
7 Nick Saban (Bama, arguably LSU)
8. GAry Patterson
9. Brian Kelley at Cincinatti and Notre Dame
10. Mark Richt
11. Bobby Petrino
12. Rod Carey
13. Bo Pelini
14. Dino Babers
15. Kevin Sumlin (Houston and Texas A&M)
16. Willie Fritz (almost in the FCS category, but he isn't getting his assk kicked)
17. Dabo Swinney
18. LARRY frickING COKER! (You are a lazy piece of shite for this one)
19. Brian Harsin
20. Matt Wells
21. Tim DeRuyter
22. Charlie Strong (both Louisville and Texas, yes Texas)
23. Bret Bielema (at wisconsin, not at Arkansas, but he his winning% at Arkansas sucks)
24. Kyle Whittingham
25. Mike Gundy (Les left OSU a better place, have to admit it)
26. Davdi Doeren (at Northern Illinois, but he sucks at NCState)
27. Matt Campbell
28. Tommy Tuberville
29. Dennis Franchione
30. Jerry Kill
31. Larry Fedora (at Southern Miss not UNC)
32. Blake Anderson (also he is 6-4)
33. Kyle Flood
34.Ruffin McNeill
35. Butch Jones (everywhere he has gone)
36. hugh Freeze

Coaches that walked into better situation

1. Jim Mora
2. Doc Holliday

Non FBS Coaches that are getting their asses kicked this year, at Shitty FBS Schools

1. Craig Bohl
2. Chris Creighton
4. Chuck MArtin
5. Bobby Wilder
6. Pete Lembo
7. Mark Whipple
8. Jeff Monken
9. Bill Clark
10. Ron Caragher (technically coached in the pioneer football league first)
11. Bobby Hauck (15-47 at UNLV good job on this one)

frickign Triple Option Coaches
1. Paul Johnson
2.Ken Niumatalolo

Disgraced Coached
1. Mike Leach

Coaches that went to similar situations in easier conferences
1. Jim McElwain

Coaches that have had long careers, and it is crazy to compare to 4 years at Oklahoma/ Some really old dudes
1. Bob Stoops
2. Gary Pinkel
3. Frank beamer
4. Bill Snyder
5. George O'Leary
7. Larry Balkeny

Good Coaches that have Taken over Comparable Teams and done better
1. James Franklin
2. Mark Dantonio
3. Todd Graham
4. Bronco Mendenhall (slipping now)
5. Dan Mullen

so the list of 70 because 5, and the best two are probably D'Antonion and Mullen/Franklin.

I don't know how any of them would do at LSU, over 10 years. None of them have really been in a position to recruit elite players. They are sort of a "doing well with what they have" type coaches. Denton may be the best.

anyway your criteria sucks, and produces some laughable coaches (Larry Coker, you lazy piece of shite)

Outside Urban Meyer, and Nick Saban, there really isn't anyone on that list that makes me think (that guy is going to take us all the way)

Won't argue on the decline part as I think it's possible that Miles has lost his edge.

But we've lost a lot to a lot of bad ones? Which fricking years did LSU lose a lot of games in the recent past? This is the spoiled, entitled thing I'm not sure I get w/ this fanbase. The Arkie performance should piss any Tiger fan off just a bit. But this idea that LSU football has sucked for the past 5 years is a little weird to me.

My prediction is if Miles continues to struggle and gets fired we get Pete Carrol in 2 or 3 years.

Is Pete Carrol like prematurely gray, or really old?

The argument for him is like Miles is some great strategist or something. He's not a great football coach. And I'm talking in terms of Xs and Os.
