re: Who is on your HC short list?

the time to pluck Herman was last season. After this year, they will do whatever it takes to keep him. The Jimbo door is probably also shut.
I don't know where you realistically go. In a perfect world, we toss Les out and give Arranda a test run as interim.

You make Herman say no. Then you raise the offer and make him say no 5 more times.
Then you do the same for Jimbo.
If that doesn't work, promote Aranda and let that brainiac pick his own coordinators, but say he has to keep Bebe as DL and recruiting coordinator and Raymond as DB coach.
Still pisses me off that at the end of last year the timing was right to make it a somewhat "easy" decision for both of those. Not so much anymore.

Before we annoint Herman "The Chosen One", I'd like to learn a bit more about him. This is obviously a major decision. Best to be extremely thorough.
He beat Florida State and Oklahoma in back-to-back games...with Houston.
He was the playcaller for a national champion...starting its third-string QB in arguably the greatest conference championship route ever, then against Saban's staunch, NFL-caliber defense, and, finally, versus a very good Oregon team led by a Heisman Trophy winner at QB.
He is highly intelligent, young, charismatic, exciting, and his players love him.
In short, he's damn near the perfect candidate to reinvigorate the fanbase and the program.
I wasn't ready to offer him last year, but his last two games have proven enough for me.
If he could hypothetically retain Aranda, I might pass out from the rapid blood rush to my gigantic erection.

not to mention he already has ties to Dave Aranda

People don't want Kiffin but they're fine wth Petrino?
Mullen lost to South Alabama on Saturday. He'd be tarred and feathered if that were LSU.

LSU didn't tar and feather Saban when he lost to UAB.
Nice logical debate last night man. At least we discussed our ponts without getting nasty with it.

You don't see a difference between our fan base expectations now and those in 2000?

This will have to happen fast to salvage recruiting but with this administration it will probably drag on to feb

The problem with Aranda is that we have no clue if he's a good HC. But, he seems to be a highly intelligent guy and I think would make a great face of the program. He knows defense. The question is, can he find a good offensive coordinator and turn the offense over to him.
I'm not opposed to giving him a shot, but I don't think that's my first choice. I do think that one way to find out how he would be as a head coach is to allow him to coach this season as interim HC, but that only happens if we lose to AU and UF IMO. Otherwise, Miles will coach the entire season.

I do. Mullens is also at Miss St. Not exactly LSU type talent IMHO.
Posted on 9/6/16 at 10:28 am to DBU
frick Mullen. We applaud him for not being God awful at Miss St, but that doesn't mean we'd have any business hiring him.

there's no excuse IMO for a HC of an SEC team to lose to South Alabama when he's been at that school for so long. It isn't like he doesn't have his own recruits, etc.
He also apparently is hated my a majority of Texas high school coaches after what he did to that kid last year. We don't want that.

Exactly. They share the same alma mater.

I'm not going to poke fun at you, but I have to ask...why?
Why would you be willing to hire that Grade-A prick of a coach who left the SEC with egg on his face?
I think he is one of the better quarterback coaches in the country, but is it really worth it to take him with all of his baggage?

I know I've already said it, but I'm going to continue to monitor how Scott Frost does at UCF this year.

but you want Kiffin and guy that has been a proven failure already as a head coach.

I'm still waiting for someone to give an objective reasons why Kiffin is a HC failure.
He ditched Tennessee for USC and then USC was heavily penalized by the NCAA. No coach would have done well at SC during that period.
He's also now learned under the greatest coach of all time and would hopefully have picked up a thing or two for how to run a program.
He isn't my first choice but it's asinine to write him off and shoot for the moon with the Mullens and Gundys of the world.
