My sister road on the cage as a cheerleader in late 70s

My daughter was a cheerleader from 2007-2010. The girl cheerleaders would flip off the back of the cage to dismount.

Well that's animal abuse, so no

If Colorado can run out with a live Bison and Texas can bring a cow, LSU should be allowed to bring Mike. No cage. Just let him roam

I took this...I believe it was the last year they did it! Pretty cool tradition but I understand why they stopped.

In the mid-forties they used to sit Mike’s cage next to where the opponents exited for the paying field. That’s a fond remembrances.

Better image show the other team coming out of the locker room and had to run right by him!!!

Like hundreds of people do past his cage every day. So terrifying.

Yes and it was 2nd to nothing in all of college football. I also wish that it could return.

Upon returning to in front of the student section, some cheerleaders and the human mascot would yell and pound on the cage to get a response from Mike.
Not how they did it. There was a segment on inside LSU football about this while I was a student.
Costumed Mike would hide behind the cheerleaders, then jump out and “say hi” to Mike. The sight of costumed Mike triggered the hell out of the animal. There was definitely no banging on the cage.

I lived in the stadium during my second year at LSU. I don't know how I survived living there. There wasn't any air conditioned rooms in the stadium and to get cool you had to bring a fan to put in front of a open window. I stayed in that sweatbox for a year. The next year I lived in Kirby Smith. That dorm was the best dorm to live in since it had a/c. The second best was Gram Hall. Today I can't live without an a/c running. In high school we got a/c's the month before we graduated. I guess that your body adapts to the conditions you are in.

From Life Magazine, 1958 or 1959. I was attending LSU at that time and went to all the home games.

I’ve ridden a few times in the stadium as he was pulled around.

I saw Mike the Tiger many times while attending games and it was usually parked directly in front of us. Fun times, but I also support leaving him in his enclosure if that's what is best for him.

Me. I miss it. I understand why they don’t do anymore but I still miss it.

Either Mike III or IV's mobile cage was bars only. We were playing So Carolina and the USC cheerleaders were taunting him with their chicken.
This was my first ever LSU game. My Uncle brought me. We sat in the Southwest side. I don’t remember the chicken eating though but I was in awe of the whole experience so can’t say if it was true or not. Lifelong Tiger fan after that night.

It was in 1983, I also lived in the dormitories in Tiger Stadium. That was a wild and crazy time like no other living environment on campus. We all heard Mike’s roars at night.
Geaux Tigers!

How exactly is that supposed to scare the other team?
