I agree with Trevonte Valentine. Runner up is Arik Gilbert.

Had a much, much better freshman year than Trey’dez Green just had, and the perception is Green is “next”.

Freak Johnson
His interception against Georgia was incredible. But yeah he never lived up to the hype

Anthony Johnson. It sounded like the dude tried hard, just never really put it together.
Not even close to the biggest bust. Him declaring early was moronic & did not help the perception of his career.

Multi year starters on good LSU teams lol

Freak Johnson wasn’t all that great either.
Freak was not a bust because he played for like 3 yrs and started. He did not live up to the "dominator" label like Michael Brockers though. He was just over hyped. He was still good

Did he make it to campus? I remember the commitment but don’t remember him actually being on the team.

He wasn’t a bust in the sense that he didn’t live up to expectations, but it’s fair to say that he’s probably the player with the highest negative impact on the team as a result of things not going as expected. We were in QB purgatory for ten years after he got kicked off the team. Who knows how different things might have been if he’d kept it together and finished his career at LSU.

Well I think he would have had a good 2021 season, but he had that tubing/hunting/fishing accident and missed the season. And he probably would have had a good 2022 season but BK axed him for JD.

Loston was a top 20 player nationally (top 5 by some plublications). He was regarded as the top safety in his class, one of the top overall DBs and a parade all american coming out of high school.
He was a two year starter who's highest accolade was second team all conference and a senior bowl invite.
A bust is someone who fails to meet expectations, not someone who simply contributes on good teams and is a starter. If you think Loston met his or anyones expectations you've gotten dumber than I had originally thought.

You just listed a 2 year starter who contributed in 45 games as the biggest bust ever. You can’t call anyone dumb

No I didn't. I listed him as one of. Because he is.

Can't really compare those two.
Arik Gilbert was the 6th overall player, highest rated tight end in history, and started from day 1.
TreyDez was a 4 star and played his freshman year behind someone named Mason Taylor. TreyDez didn't get nearly the opportunities that Gilbert did.

Yes you can

5 star HS All Americans, top 20 players, tops at their position, etc come with expectations of not just starting and earning second team all conference accolades. Busts are measure by those who has the biggest gap between expectations and achieved accolades and accomplishments.
Whether those accomplishments occur in college or the next level like Danielle Hunter, they need to come for the players regarded as high as Loston was.
Loston played in 45 games, had 148 tackles and had 7 INTs as a top 20 player nationalls regardless of position, an all American and the #1 safety in his signing class.
Danny MCray on the other hand was the 22nd safety in his class, played in 52 games, had 196 tackles, three INTS and three forced fumbles.
Busts are not just determined by their accomplishments but rather their accomplishments compared to the expectations. Fair or not, it's a reality.

How do you start to compare a two year starter who played in 45 games to say, another 5 star safety in Marcel Brooks ?
I could blind test you on Loston & Chad Jones & you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference lol.
