Fair enough
I don't dislike Reid at all, and like I said I think he was better in 2011.
I just have some real hero worship going on for Steltz. He also should have started for way more than 1 year. He was behind like Jessie Daniels who wasn't good.

A lot in the DBU era:
Peterson, Mathieu, Claiborne, Tre White
In the classic or "early modern" era - Casanova is a GOAT LSU player candidate, regardless of position (hell, I'll say it - if the position is "football player" - Cannon, Casanova, Faulk and Mathieu are too close to call) - so obviously.
Britt is another cornerback who earned All American honors at LSU.
Safeties Landry, Reid and Steltz - and honestly, they are tough to differentiate - Landry was a great hitter, Reid was a great "cover" safety and Steltz was somewhere in between.
My sentimental candidates are guys like Chris Williams and Fred Booker - but we've had a ton of great DBs, particularly the last 20 years.
I think you have to give Peterson, Claiborne and Casanova the top 3 spots because of the Thorpe Award for the first 2 and 3 All Americans for Casanova. If Mathieu and Webster (2xAA) are the next two - the top 5 spots are pretty well locked up.

Who the hell knows, but this is what i think:
Tyrann Mathieu might be the biggest and best difference maker in modern LSU history.

Greg Jackson
How soon they forget...
A standout on a great LSU defense -I'll never for get his 100 yd. (longer than that, really) pick-6 against Moo state. Had a very solid, 12-year NFL career, including a Super Bowl win with the Giants and long, still-continuing coaching career in the NFL, currently with the Cowboys.
He should be on any such list.

'Bout time Stovall's name appears here. For 3 years, team's best RB, DB, return man and punter. Obviously, today's athletes are bigger, stronger, faster. But an all-time list should be relative. This guy was all-world, and an immediate NFL starter at strong safety.
