I don't think any LSU fans are proud of what happened and if they are, then that's where I draw the line. I couldn't watch the CWS last year because of the disgust I had with what happened. But I still could say good game to somebody that beat us.

Again, why is it not ok for a fan to be there to shake a guys hand and say good game and good luck? You were already there "supporting your team".

Don't confuse our arguement. Nobody here has said that LSU baseball fans should taunt, curse, and spit on the opponents. But there is a big line in being respectful to an opponent, and celebrating their win with them. If you aren't there to watch the Tigers win, and you aren't disappointed when they lose, then don't wear purple and gold to the games, and don't yell "Tigers" when Chris Guillot yells "Geaux".

Seriously, some of our fans didn't even let Stony Brook get off of the dogpile before they started their cheering. There is nothing wrong with a polite applause as the winning team returned to their dugout, but to celebrate with them like that is a big slap in the face to those guys wearing gold in the LSU dugout that you allegedly pulled for all year long.

I agree with this, I am just saying its ok to give a tip of the hat to the other team when deserving. It doesn't make someone less of a fan.

This whole thing is ridiculous.

1. Skip is a class act, but do you really think "the fans clap for the other team is what I enjoy most?" I doubt it. Plus he's talking about pitching, not a sweep.

2. It's correct that typical football fans and baseball fans approach the game different. Football probably goes too far one way to preserve and image, baseball too far the other way to preserve an image.

Its not a slap in the face. Everyone in that stadium realized how incredible it was for a team like Stony Brook to come into Baton Rouge and make it to Omaha. These 18-22 year old KIDS deserved a celebration for what would be one of the best moments of their life.

It was done because it was Stony Brook and they were going to Omaha. That was probably one of the biggest upsets in LSU sports history. It would not have happened for a larger school.

Some of you guys need to get a grip. Obviously everyone there wanted to win, but the game was over at that point.

While I don't disagree it that it wasn't a big deal, it wasn't done to congratulate Stony Brook. It was done because it made those fans feel like they were so dignified and special

i keep seeing people say this. They had like 6 or 7 people drafted...mostly really early in the draft. I would say LSU sports has had a lot more and worse upsets. They were also ranked in the top 25 coming into regional play

Obviously any time that pulls off a huge upset is going to have some good players on it. The fact that it was Stony Brook is what makes it such a big upset. Compare the facilities, resources, schools, fans, history....come on.

If a 17-year old rapes a girl the driveman has a feeling you wood be first in LINE to try him as an adult and you refer to 21-22 year olds as kids because they play baseball. Looks like your the one that needs to revaluate brother

Some of you think clapping for other teams players is bad for some reason. Skip disagrees. It is a sign of a knowledgeable group of fans and it shows class.

Can you not see the difference in applauding an opposing pitcher coming out of the game in the late innings from giving a victory lap to an opposing team that just beat you to steal your team's dream?

It happened for 2 reasons IMO. Fans remember all the UNC Wilmington lap we gave their team after we beat them. If that wouldn't have happened, the Stony Brook incident wouldn't have happened. Fans thought back to that, and remember all the positive press they got and decided to do it again. Of course most couldn't see the difference in the 2 situations, so they embarassed us.

I hope the tigers have a picture in the locker room of the fans giving Stony Brook the victory lap this year in postseason as motivation.

There is a reason LSU's baseball fans are known for being some of the greatest fans in college baseball. I like that persona and if allowing the opposing team to take a lap and congratulate them on a much deserved super regional win is just too much for some to handle then tough shite. It's not the end of the world to show some class as fans. It gives LSU some positive spin and probably helps a little in recruiting.

Yes I can. Can you see the difference in "celebrating" with the other team and congratulating them on a hard fought victory with a hand shake and wish good luck?
