Let's talk stats. What is his batting average? Have we ever had in the modern era players with batting averages that low who also struggled in the field play for the might tigers?

That's funny?
I keep seeing Brandt Broussard's name in the exit velo leaders. He has at least 4 hits over 100mph. He has 13 hits with only 1 XBH. And you can't argue he has had bad luck like Slaughter. He has the most hits on the team.

quote:If you are on first and you are slow, outside of a HR, at least two good things have to happen for you to score. It’s why his run totals aren’t up there with others who get on base as much as him. In 3 years he’s been at 1st base 92 time, 2nd 9 times and 3rd once. He has no steal attempts. All that has resulted in 32 runs. So just over 30%. Again, we spoke about this. That’s a really low number. Does he have to rely on those hitting behind him? Of course. That’s all he can rely on. And 90% of the time, he has to rely on more than one. That’s a tall task for the bottom of the order in general.
You score runs when you get on base.

you sound so fricking stupid when you keep saying this. Just stop
slow and getting on base is better then giving away out and not getting on base at all.

Jake Slaughter had an exit velocity of over 109 mph against UNO this season.
Top exit speeds from 11 preseason scrimmage games:
Jake Slaughter 109.7 mph
Jake Slaughter 107.1 mph
Jake Slaughter 107.0 mph
Nick Webre 106.6 mph
Daniel Cabrera 106.1 mph
Bryce Jordan 105.7 mph
Nick Webre 104.5 mph
Beau Jordan 104.4 mph
Jake Slaughter 104.3 mph
Top exit from the fall:
Jake Slaughter 109.31 mph
Jake Slaughter 108.38 mph
Jake Slaughter 108.25 mph
Jake Slaughter 108.16 mph
Mason Doolittle 107.71 mph
Beau Jordan 107.54 mph
Daniel Cabrera 107.22 mph
Jake Slaughter 106.98 mph
Daniel Cabrera 106.95 mph
Nick Webre 106.77 mph
Go figure the guys at the top are our best power hitters.

7 of Reid’s first 8 runs in the SEC his freshman year, he scored from 3B. The other, he scored on a triple by Dup from 2B (pap scored from first!)I stopped there. In every case, he started at 1B meaning multiple “good” things had to happen for him to score.
I get it. He has a good OBP. Never said he didn’t. But he doesn’t have a place in the field and he isn’t going to DH. I’d be fine with him PHing to start an inning in place of a struggling hitter and then pinch running for him.

Broussard has 1 K in 32 ABs. Meaning he’s put the ball in play 31 times. Of course he’s going to have a couple of them hit hard. He had 3 100 mph hits vs Texas out of the 13 he put in play with 7 hits... Slaughter had 5 of his 11 go for 100+ But no hits. Go figure.

I love how you say this so matter of factly. Like we are supposed to put stock in practice exit velo's against what has been a terrible LSU staff thus far, boasting a team ERA over 6.
Jake slaughter got his 2nd extra base hit of the year tonight. woohoo! Our top power hitter because of practice exit velo! So dumb.
Exit velo generally correlates, but it doesn't always. You need a much larger sample size to make these declarations. Especially considering the guy slugged .351 last year, currently leads the team in K's this year, and never fricking walks

Slaughter is playing for one reason.
PM knows that if, and that's a big ifhe comes around; he'd got the type of talent to help you win it all in Omaha.
A guy like Reid may help win a game or three, but he does not have the type of talent to carry a team. He's not a big difference maker.
If you win two or three games now it means nothing. The program is judged by how we do in Omaha, and for that reason PM is going to give a kid like Slaughter every opportunity to find "it".
